Thames Water pledges to reduce bills hikepublished at 13:20 Greenwich Mean Time 28 November 2017
Thames Water says it will reduce household bill increases next year by £40m after admitting it "let down" customers.
Britain's biggest water supplier said the expected annual rise would effectively halve for 2018-19, meaning bills will be £8 less on average than they would have otherwise been.
The move comes after a tough year for the utility, which received a record £20m fine in March for pumping 1.9 billion litres of untreated sewage into the River Thames.
Outgoing chairman Sir Peter Mason said: "Our leakage performance over the last year has let down our customers and stakeholders and we're working hard to improve our performance."
