Villagers have leapt to the defense of an Oxfordshire church that received complaints its bells are too loud.
A spokesperson for Bodicote Church announced on its Facebook page, external that "in response to complaints, which if escalated could actually result in us being forced to drastically curtail bell ringing or indeed stop altogether, as responsible neighbours, the church... is investigating some sound control improvements for the tower to reduce sound levels".
The church's statement resulted in an outpouring of goodwill from neighbours and parishioners who love the sound of the bells.
Jennie Healy summed up the mood when she wrote: "The church has been part of the village since 13th century. Therefore all living in the vicinity have chosen to do so in the knowledge there is a fair sized church which true to tradition will at times ring bells. Not sure what else to say really except what a shame."
Stewart Hollyhead, like many others, feels the complainants should leave Bodicote, calling the complaints "utter nonsense".
He added: "The bells are a part of the village. To whom the bells tolls, move if you don't like it."
However, Linda Winters pointed out: "Church bells are lovely, but quite a lot of people have to sleep during the day due to shift work. Police, ambulance and fire staff all work nights and the bells are very loud. But I do love them."
BBC South Live will keep an eye on the situation and give you a bell when we know more.

Some sad news this afternoon - the oldest donkey in the Isle of Wight Donley Sanctuary has died.
Henry, a red-roan donkey, was 47-years-old and died peacefully on Monday afternoon at the Ventnor animal charity.
In recent years he became known as "Henry no-teeth" and staff at the sanctuary made him a special porridge feed.
Quote MessageHenry had given enormous pleasure to previous owners, staff and to visitors to the sanctuary. He was kind and gentle and was one of the donkeys entrusted to small children to be groomed – Henry lapped up the fuss and attention. He loved humans and loved nothing more than a cuddle and a stroke, and would stand for minutes on end in the embrace of visitors who had hugged and groomed him.
