    Southampton cancer survivor ditches wigs to raise awareness

    A student who was diagnosed with cancer has set up a blog called Cancerchicks to help raise awareness and support for others with the disease.

    Olivia Smith, who is at university in Southampton, was diagnosed two days before her 22nd birthday.

    When she began chemotherapy she documented her journey on video in the hope she could build a community for other patients.

    She now has a following of more than 30,000 people online.

  4. Lorry crashes into garden

    A lorry crashed through trees and overturned in a garden in Banbury on Sunday.

    The driver managed to free himself from the cab after the crash at about 08:00 GMT in Hennef Way.

    He was taken to hospital for checks, Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service said.

    The occupants of the house were in at the time but were not injured.

  6. Betting shop raider steals £4,000

    A man has stolen £4,000 from a betting shop safe in Portsmouth after jumping the counter and grabbing the cashier.

    The raid happened at Betfred in Commercial Road between 20:00 and 20:20 GMT on Saturday.

    Police said the culprit was a tall, white man, aged about 30 with ginger hair and stubble.

  7. Southampton FC statement on Mark Hughes

    Southampton Football Club can today confirm it has parted company with First Team Manager Mark Hughes. Assistant First Team Manager Mark Bowen and Assistant First Team Coach Eddie Niedzwiecki have also left the club. We would like to express our thanks to Mark and his staff for all of their efforts during their time at St Mary’s. The search for a new manager to take the club forward is already under way. First Team Assistant Coach Kelvin Davis will lead the team for Wednesday’s Premier League game against Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley.

    Hughes, who was appointed in March, helped Saints to avoid relegation from the Premier League last season.

  17. Twin Sails Bridge fault 'serious'

    A mechanical fault which has closed the Twin Sails Bridge in Poole for more than two weeks is believed to be "serious" and "not easily rectified", the borough council has said.

    The problem developed with the lifting mechanism on the Hamworthy side on 16 November.

    The council said "complex" exploratory work was continuing to identify the best method of repair.
