    A school in Hampshire has been closed due to positive Covid-19 cases.

    Riverside Community Special School in Waterlooville was closed to all pupils on Tuesday, Hampshire County Council said.

    On Monday, the school said there had been two positive cases.

    In a letter on the school's website, head teacher Catherine Le Roux said: "Rabbit, Robins, Deers, Owls and Foxes remain closed until 17th December.

    "Key Stage 2 will be closed on Tuesday 8th December so that I am able to re-evaluate the number of cases and the risk that this may pose to our school."

    The school said further information was expected on Tuesday afternoon following the full closure.

    Officers on the Isle of Wight have handed out several fixed penalty notices for breaches of Covid-19 rules - including to 12 people at a house party - during the first weekend of the new tier system.

    The island is one of only three areas in England with tier 1 "medium" status.

    On Saturday, two 18-year-old men from Portsmouth were reported for summons for a fine following a public order incident on the High Street in Newport.

    And in the early hours of Sunday morning, officers were called to a house party on Cross Street in Ryde, where 12 people - who were all from the Isle of Wight - were handed penalties, including two who were initially arrested.

    Assistant Chief Constable Maggie Blyth said: “We will not be preventing people from travelling from one area to another but are working with ferry operators, and partner agencies, to ensure that the public is informed about the restrictions in place."

    Councillor Dave Stewart, leader of Isle of Wight Council, said: "We don’t want to stop people having a good time, but want to encourage people to be responsible so that our community can have an enjoyable and safe festive season while keeping coronavirus cases down."
