    Video taken by BBC drone operator Marcus Gaines shows the size of the plume of smoke that has been seen over Southampton.

    It comes from a major fire that broke out at a warehouse near the city's St Mary's stadium at about 13:00 GMT.

    A cordon has been put in place by emergency services.

    This latest photo sent through from the fire service appears to show the building engulfed in flames collapsing.

    More than 100 firefighters remain at the scene.

    It can still be seen from miles around as 18 crews - which equates to more than 100 firefighters - continue to fight the flames.

    The EFL say they are "closely monitoring" the fire ahead of Southampton's Championship fixture with Preston North End tonight.

    Saints are due to kick off at 19:45 GMT but the scale of the blaze has put the match into doubt.

    Roads near the stadium remain closed as firefighters continue to tackle the blaze.

    Video taken from across Southampton shows the extent of a fire that has ripped through a warehouse in the city.

    A major fire has broken out close to the football ground with a large smoke plume coming from industrial units on Marine Parade close to St Mary's Stadium.

    People across the city have seen large plumes of thick black smoke billowing across the sky and have been posting videos on social media.

  11. One patient suffers smoke inhalation - ambulance servicepublished at 14:59 Greenwich Mean Time 6 March

    South Central Ambulance says it has treated one person who suffered minor smoke inhalation.

    There have been no other reports of injuries.

    In a statement, it said: "We have our full hazardous area response team, a tactical advisor and an ambulance at this incident and are working with colleagues from Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service and Hampshire police in a joint response."

    It added that paramedics would remain at the scene as is usual for an incident of this nature.

    The fire service says 18 fire engines are now at the scene.

    It has confirmed the blaze involves four industrial units.

    "There is lots of smoke and people the area are reminded to keep doors and windows closed," it says in its latest statement.

  13. Police assisting with road closurespublished at 14:44 Greenwich Mean Time 6 March

    Police have confirmed they have been assisting with road closures as the fire continues to burn.

    The fire service said some of the closures are needed to allow its specialist vehicles, such as its aerial ladder platforms, to to move around freely.

    Residents have already been asked to shut their windows as the smoke continues to billow across the city.

    At the moment there is no word on whether or not the fire will have an impact on the Championship match between Saints and Preston North End this evening.

    Kick off is due for 19.45 GMT.

    A loud speaker has been heard telling people to evacuate from St Mary's Stadium as the fire at a nearby warehouse continues.

    "Crowds of staff from the stadium made their way outside." reporter Curtis Lancaster says.

    BBC Radio Solent has been speaking to witnesses close to the scene.

  16. 'Pops' heard as fire rips through buildingpublished at 14:18 Greenwich Mean Time 6 March

    BBC reporter Indy Almroth-Wright described the blaze as "immense" and said "pops" could be heard.

    She said the roof of the warehouse had collapsed and all of the windows were blown out, with flames coming out of the gaps.

    Hundreds of pallets are piled around the edges that are not yet affected by the blaze.

    Fork lift trucks are being used to move them away from the area, she added.

    Hampshire Fire & Rescue have asked people to stay away from a large fire in the St Mary's area of Southampton.

    A statement said: "People in the area are advised to keep windows and doors closed due to the amount of smoke.

    "Some roads local to the incident are closed and people are advised to avoid the area to allow movements of emergency vehicles."
