  1. Travel: Worcester to Hereford train service cancelledpublished at 13:48 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February 2016

    Great Western Railway (GWR) have cancelled one of their services running between Worcester Foregate Street and Hereford - other services are not affected, the operator says.

    London Midlands, which runs trains on the same line, say they will accept GWR tickets.

    Plans to build a multimillion-pound HQ for the technology firm Gtech in a Worcester suburb have been rejected by the city council. 

    People in Warndon Villages have been campaigning against the development, which was planned to be near a historic church.  

    Alan Feeney, the city councillor for the area, says he supports any company's growth plans, but had to put the local environment first.

    Worcester Warriors have confirmed the signing of the Northampton Saints hooker Matt Williams who will join them for the 2016-17 season.

    Three-year-old Loghan Jones, a mascot at Hereford FC's home game at the weekend, has become a social media hit after mimicking the captain's warm-up on the pitch. 

    Loghan copied every move of his idol, captain Joel Edwards, and his efforts were rewarded with a standing ovation from the crowd.

  6. Taxpayer 'won't have to fund new cycle track'published at 12:27 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February 2016

    Funding for a new cycling track at Hereford racecourse won't come from the taxpayer, a councillor who's backing the plan says.

    The plan to build a mile-long tarmac track took a major leap forward after ARC, who lease the course from the council, decided to bring back horse racing to the city.

    Councillor Jimmy Kenyon, says the track will bring economic benefit by attracting people into the city.

    A man has been found not guilty of manslaughter following a fire at a flat in Kidderminster where a woman died in November 2014.

    Mark Moat, 43, was also cleared of arson which endangered life.

    He was found guilty of arson from an incident earlier in the year and pleaded guilty to threatening to destroy property.

    Sandra Nowocinska, who was 22, died four days after being rescued from the fire at a flat in The Horsefair.

    Moat will be sentenced on 4 March.

    A meeting is taking place today to decide whether a new £5m office and research development will be built in Warndon Villages in Worcester.

    The city council is recommending that Gtech, which makes vacuum cleaners, has its plans approved.

  9. Child sex exploitation criticisms of police 'deeply disturbing' say NSPCCpublished at 11:36 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February 2016

    A children's charity says it is "deeply disturbing" West Mercia Police is still not tackling child sexual exploitation effectively.

    A report from the police watchdog HM Inspector of Constabulary said the force wasn't good enough at protecting vulnerable people, especially missing children.

    West Mercia Police said it has already made changes since the inspection.

  11. Police 'rising to the challenge' after 'requires improvement' ratingpublished at 11:06 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February 2016

    A "requires improvement" rating from the police watchdog is "certainly disappointing", a leading West Mercia officer has admitted.

    Assistant Chief Constable Chris Singer says the force is "rising to the challenge" raised by the report from HM Inspector of Constabulary, external.

    The report found the force was not consistently providing the right level of protection for vulnerable people and may be missing the risks of children being groomed for sexual exploitation.

  13. Driver sought after crash which closed road into Worcesterpublished at 10:37 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February 2016

    The driver of a red vehicle is being sought by police after an accident involving two cars closed the A443 Hallow Road, external on Tuesday morning.

    An 18-year-old man sustained leg injuries and a 65-year-old man suffered back and rib injuries in the crash. Both were taken to Worcester Royal Hospital where they are currently being treated, police say.  

    Officers want to speak to the driver of a red vehicle travelling in the direction of Tenbury at the time of the collision who could have "vital information regarding the collision".  

  14. Train companies in Herefordshire and Worcestershire the worst for delayspublished at 10:15 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February 2016

    Two train companies operating services in Herefordshire and Worcestershire are the worst for delays, according to a report by the consumer group Which?, external.

    Arriva Train Wales, who run trains through Herefordshire, were the worst, with 31% of passengers having the journeys delayed.

    Of the passengers using First Great Western trains, 30% faced delays.

    Some 23% of passengers on London Midland trains were delayed.

  16. Bus company says it has made 'positive improvements' despite lost contractspublished at 09:37 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February 2016

    A bus company that has had some of its contracts taken away by Worcestershire County Council says it is committed to "providing considerable investment and further improvements". 

    Diamond Bus lost three school service contracts after the council, yesterday, said "significant" problems remained over "timetables, vehicle reliability, driver performance and communication issues".

    In a statement, the company said "positive improvements in general have been recognised by Worcestershire County Council" and that it continues to operate a number of other contracted services on behalf of the council.

  18. West Mercia Police 'requires improvement'published at 09:00 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February 2016

    The national policing watchdog has given West Mercia Police a "requires improvement" rating for its overall performance - highlighting problems tackling organised crime and protecting vulnerable people.

    HM Inspector of Constabulary found the force may not be consistently providing the right level of safeguarding and protection to missing children, especially children in care and they may be missing risks of grooming for sexual exploitation. 

    Inspectors did though find that West Mercia is good at preventing smaller crimes and anti-social behaviour.
