    A socially-distanced, candlelight vigil will be held this evening to mark the 40th anniversary of the death of Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham.

    It's going to take place at his statue in his home town of Redditch.

    Bonham was just 32 years old when he died and is seen by some as the best drummer of all time.

    Here's some drone footage, supplied by Skynique, of the new fish pass on the River Severn north of Shrewsbury.

    The blocks you can see have been sunk in the channel to break up the flow of the water and make it easier for fish to get up stream.

    A baby rhino at West Midland Safari Park has had his name chosen... by his mum.

    All babies born there this year have been given a name starting with the letter I and keepers narrowed the choices down to a shortlist of two, before giving Seto the final say - and as you can see, she chose Inesh.

    Inesh was born on 8 September and when he's a bit older he will be allowed out into the park with the rest of his family.

  5. Fish pass created to help endangered fish get up streampublished at 17:03 British Summer Time 24 September 2020

    A fish pass has been created on the River Severn near Worcester, to help fish travel up stream more easily.

    The 100m bypass will allow them to swim up a gradually around the weir at Bevere and help breeds such as the endangered twaite shad.

    The work was done by a partnership made up of the Canal and River Trust, Severn Rivers Trust, Environment Agency and Natural England.

    They said salmon and eel would also benefit from the channel and there are plans to build three others, with money from the national lottery and the European Union.

    Droitwich Archery Society is looking for a new home and there are fears it might have to close.

    The club has been running for more than 50 years, but has been told it can't use Droitwich High School any more, because of coronavirus safety concerns.

    The chair of the group, Peter Sargent, said it was an important point of social contact and that members "constantly need to keep their skills up to date".

    The new government restrictions don't prevent archery clubs from meeting, inside or outside, but a number of clubs are finding difficulty in returning to schools and other sites where they've practised in the past.

    The former Worcestershire racehorse trainer Michael Oliver has died at the age of 70.

    He trained at Elmley Lovett near Droitwich from 1973 to 1991 with his most famous victory coming in April 1986 when his horse, West Tip, won the Grand National.

    Traffic is flowing again on all but one of the lanes of the M5 near Worcester where there was a tanker crash earlier today.

    Highways England said there had been a significant amount of damage to the barrier which would need assessing before it was repaired.

    Earlier, the M5 was closed in both directions between junctions six and seven.

    The police said there would be some "residual delays" as a result of the lane closure this evening.

    The northbound carriageway remains shut from J7 (for Worcester) to J6 (for Evesham).

    Highways England said delays were still running at about an hour.

    One lane southbound has now also been closed as the clean-up operation continues.

    Another bid is being made to build 1,200 homes in Hereford.

    The applicants, Church Commissioners for England, had previously applied to build on land at Three Elms in 2016, but revised those plans after feedback from the council, residents and businesses.

    Among the objectors to these new plans is Heineken, because it fears the development could affect the ground water supplies that feed the ciders it produces locally.

    The plans are due to be considered by Herefordshire councillors in January and would be built in two phases.

    They also include the possibility of sports pitches, a health centre, primary school and shops.

    The M5 is now fully open again southbound between junctions six and seven.

    And West Mercia Police said it was slowly releasing traffic past the scene of the crash on the northbound carriageway.

    At the same time contractors are in the process of recovering the tanker and clearing up the debris, but said there would still be "significant delays".

    Highways England has said it expects the M5 to be cleared sometime after 13:00, allowing "normal traffic conditions" to resume.

    In the meantime, traffic is being taken off the motorway at Worcester, via the A44 and A4440, heading north.

    And the A4538, B4636 and B4084 heading south.

    An overturned tanker has closed a section of the M5 in Worcestershire, between junctions seven and six, in both directions.

    Highways England said the vehicle, which was carrying flammable liquids, has come to rest on its side and there was "significant damage" to the barrier.

    A cordon has been set up around the scene for safety.

    A signalling fault has caused a second day of reduced services on train lines through Birmingham's Snow Hill station.

    West Midlands Railway said it has been running an "emergency timetable", involving some bus services, to Worcester and Stratford since the fault occurred yesterday morning.

    Police patrols in the Arboretum area of Worcester have been stepped up, after reports of a group of men in a car approaching children as they walk home from school.
