  2. Hospital chief in 'fear' of 20% patient increasepublished at 17:56 British Summer Time 28 June 2016

    BBC Hereford and Worcester

There's concern that the Worcestershire Royal's A&E services are overstretched and may continue to be in years to come, according to the NHS Trust running the hospital

The comments come after the emergency department there had possibly its busiest weekend ever, with a 20% rise in ambulance arrivals over the past year.

Chris Tidman, chief executive of the hospital trust, says even though a new expansion of its facilities is due to open in July, it may not be able to cope with demand.

    Quote Message

My fear is that if we do see this 20% increase and this carries on because A&E is seen as the only place people can go, I'll be looking at another extension in 12 months. We can't keep building bigger and bigger A&Es."

Chris Tidman, Chief executive of the Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust
