    Michele Paduano
    Health correspondent, BBC Midlands Today

A "risk summit" held last night by health providers in Worcestershire was prompted by concerns raised by inspectors from the Care Quality Commission, NHS England says.

It follows an inability to get patients timely treatment because of bed shortages at Worcestershire's main hospital.

The BBC was told that the Worcestershire Royal Hospital in Worcester had been running at up to 110% capacity and a senior source said the hospital accepted that it needed outside help.

The plan now will involve stopping all non-urgent operations to provide Worcester’s main hospital with a breathing space.

Clinical commissioning groups, the county council and NHS Improvement will work together to try to reduce the beds occupied at the hospital to 85% - although the trust believes that it ultimately needs to find 60 more beds.

    Quote Message

The trust welcomes the support and advice received and will be working to confirm all required actions and improvements are fully implemented."
