    A lifetime's collection of army medals , externalhas been stolen from a house near Stourport. 

    It included a British Empire Medal, a long-service and good conduct medal, an accumulated service medal, a golden jubilee medal, a former Yugoslavia medal and a Northern Ireland medal - all gathered over 37 years' service.

    West Mercia Police would like to speak to anyone who saw anything suspicious in the Bigbury area of Upper Mittion at around 10:50 on Tuesday 10 January, or who is offered medals for sale. 

  2. Atlantic rower raises more than £500k for crisis centrepublished at 11:32 Greenwich Mean Time 23 January 2017

    A Worcestershire man, who has raised more than £500,000 towards tackling youth suicide, has completed a 3,000-mile rowing challenge. 

    Harry Wentworth-Stanley and three friends rowed across the Atlantic in memory of his brother James, who killed himself at the family's home in Broadway in 2006. 

    Harry's father Nick says the money will be used to develop a new crisis centre, which will have a huge impact on preventing suicide.

  3. Car injures pedestrian as it drives off without paying for fuelpublished at 11:15 Greenwich Mean Time 23 January 2017

    A car has hit a pedestrian and another vehicle, as it drove off from a petrol station in Malvern without paying for fuel, external, police say.  

    Officers were called to the Sunnylodge BP garage on Worcester Road shortly before 19:00 last night after reports that a man had been knocked down by a red Ford Ka.

    The 27-year-old was treated at the scene by ambulance crews for minor leg and back injuries.

    West Mercia Police say they're reviewing CCTV footage and appealing for witnesses.

    Coach Paul James said he was "super proud" of Worcester Wolves after they shocked British Basketball League leaders Newcastle Eagles.

    Just five days after winning their third BBL Cup in a row, the Eagles were beaten 112-103 by the unfancied Wolves.

    Newcastle were outscored 30-16 in the third quarter by a Worcester side beaten 81-73 at Bristol last weekend.

    "The guys have been challenging each other all week in training." James told BBC Sport. "They have been beasted."

    He added: "Our game plan was to stand up to Newcastle and to do to them what they usually do to others.

    An extra 100 potentially life-saving defibrillators could be made available for remote areas of Herefordshire and Worcestershire, following a £50,000 charitable donation.

    The Four Acre Trust is offering to meet half the cost of providing the equipment to rural communities, if they can raise the other half.

    Tony Haines from Pensham near Pershore, who won a national life saver defibrillator award, has welcomed the move after having one installed on the side of his own house.

  8. New medical school plans unveiledpublished at 10:01 Greenwich Mean Time 23 January 2017

    A new generation of doctors could soon be trained in Worcester, if plans by the city's university to develop a medical school go ahead.

    Up to 72 places for trainee doctors could be created under proposals discussed at a meeting last week between the university and nearly 100 local doctors and consultants. 

    The university's Vice Chancellor David Green says so far people have been very encouraging.

    It follows an announcement by the secretary of state for health of a drive to create an extra 1,500 training places nationally from 2018.

    Dean Hammond scored a first-half hat-trick as Worcester completed their European Challenge Cup campaign with a 57-14 win over Enisei-STM.

    Hammond's treble, plus tries from Val Rapava Ruskin and Sam Betty, gave Warriors a 35-7 half-time lead.

  10. Mott The Hoople's Pete Overend Watts dies at 69published at 09:19 Greenwich Mean Time 23 January 2017

    Mott the Hoople founding band member Pete Overend Watts has died aged 69.

    He was the band's bass player until they split in 1974, playing on hits such as Roll Away The Stone and All The Young Dudes, written and produced by David Bowie.

    After 1974 he went on to form the bands Mott and British Lions. 

    Watts's death is almost exactly a year after that of drummer Dale Griffin.

    Tasers were used more by police in the West Midlands region than anywhere outside of London in 2015 - with officers deploying the weapon more than 1,500 times.

    The West Mercia force is being investigated by the Independent Police Complaints Commission into the circumstances leading up to the death of Dalian Atkinson, who collapsed after being shot twice with a Taser in Telford last year. 

    Officers in Staffordshire and the West Midlands forces now wear body cameras to help tackle complaints, with West Mercia due to follow suit.
