    A Malvern man has celebrated his 100th birthday by working as a volunteer at the town's food bank.

    Frank Chester, who still lives independently, said he's grateful he is still able to look after himself.

    He marked the big day by opening a card from the Queen, eating cake, and working a three-hour shift.

  3. No fuel at motorway services for a third daypublished at 17:14 British Summer Time 10 April 2017

    Strensham Services, on the southbound carriageway of the M5 in Worcestershire, is without fuel for a third day.

    BP, which runs the garage at the site, says it is unable to recieve fuel due to "a technical issue".

    A spokeswoman said BP is trying to resolved the problem "as quickly as possible" but has no idea when supplies will be restored.

    The service station has been without fuel since Saturday afternoon, BP says.

  4. Council farms sale: Buying farms 'second best' for tenantspublished at 17:04 British Summer Time 10 April 2017

    In two weeks' time, Herefordshire Council is to sell the 43 farms it owns, leaving 32 families with an uncertain future. 

    In all, the council will auction 59 farms and smallholdings as it attempts to balance its budget.

    Twelve tenants will have to leave their homes and businesses, with the others staying on until retirement.

    George Dunn, chief executive of the Tenant Farmers Association, says several tenants are looking at buying their farms.

  5. Police dog tribute to fundraising boypublished at 16:24 British Summer Time 10 April 2017

    A new West Midlands Police dog has been named after an Alvechurch school boy, Finlay, who raised thousands of pounds for charity before he died of a brain tumour. 

    Finlay, who was 11 when he died, always dreamed of becoming a police officer - he managed to raise over £150,000 for Brain Tumour Research before he lost his battle with the disease.

  6. Easter roadworks: Seven miles of motorway miserypublished at 15:43 British Summer Time 10 April 2017

    A 7.25-mile (12km) stretch of roadworks on the M5 near Droitwich will be one of the longest stretches in the UK to stay in place over the Easter bank holiday .

    There are narrow lanes and a 50mph speed limit between junctions five and six while work continues to convert this section into a "smart motorway", where speed limits and the lanes used can be altered at peak times.

  7. Farms sale date announced by councilpublished at 15:06 British Summer Time 10 April 2017

    Fifty-nine farms and smallholdings currently owned by Herefordshire Council will be auctioned off on Monday 24 April.

    The authority says the farms are being sold off as it is having to find "alternative ways to fund the statutory services we have to provide" and it is having to "prioritise which activities the council can support".

    The council says the auction will be "subject to open market competition" but that "all tenants who have expressed an interest will have the opportunity to bid for their own farm".

    Worcester City picked up another point in their bid to avoid relegation from Vanarama North.

    City drew 1-1 with visiting Curzon Ashton to move three points clear of third-bottom Gainsborough Trinity.

    Strensham Services, on the southbound carriageway of the M5 in Worcestershire, is still without fuel.

    Reports to BBC Hereford & Worcester suggest the problem has been ongoing since at least yesterday.

    BP, who operate the petrol station, say they are trying to resolve the problem "as soon as possible".

    A woman has raised more than £15,000 in donations as she tries to adopt a two-and-a-half-year-old orphan from Uganda .

    Emilie Larter, 25, from Leigh Sinton, Worcestershire, met the boy, called Adam, while she was volunteering for a children's charity.

    She is fundraising to help cover the costs of formally adopting the youngster and bringing him back to live in the UK.

  13. Football: Bulls' season and match day ticket prices announced published at 12:32 British Summer Time 10 April 2017

    Hereford FC have announced next season's ticket prices, external after earning promotion to the Evostik Southern League Premier Division. 

    Season ticket prices range from £184 for the Meadow End and Len Weston Terrace up to £207 for seats in the Merton Stand and Len Weston Stand.

    Under 18s and students will be able to get a season ticket for £20 for standing and seated area of the club's Edgar Street ground.

    More than 20 million cars are expected to be on the  roads and more than 200 rail engineering works are taking place over Easter.

    The busiest day for the great getaway will be Thursday, with drivers being warned some journeys could take 90 minutes longer than usual.

    The M5 around Droitwich is expected to be one of the longest stretches of roadworks in the country staying in place over Easter.

    Altogether, 35 sets of roadworks, 2% of the total, will be left in place over Easter, which Highways England said were mainly road widening or managed motorway schemes

    Five children's play areas across Worcester are to get a facelift and will be joined by a new one, the council has announced.

    The new play area (pictured) will be created in the Oldbury Road area of the city - work will start on the 27 April and should be finished by the middle of May.

    Play areas on the KGV Playing Fields, Trotshill Lane East, Medway Road, Caisters Avenue and Oaklands will also get fresh equipment.

    The council is spending £160,000 on the work.
