    Gary Gold says that his decision to stay on for another year was not part of his original plan when he arrived in January.

    "It was never my intention to stay," he told BBC Hereford & Worcester. "This was never a long-term gig.

    "I was just going to come in, in a consultant capacity, and work with Carl Hogg and the coaches, but it's just gone so well here. I didn't expect come in to a club languishing in the doldrums and enjoy it as much as I have."

    "I want to build on the work we've done as a group. On paper next season, we'd still be one of the favourites to go down and that's something we need to work at.

    "I know the big thing was staying up this season, but 11th is still a bit embarrassing and, with an atrocious away record too."

  10. Rugby: 'Blown away' Gold extends contractpublished at 16:55 British Summer Time 25 April 2017

    Worcester Warriors director of rugby Gary Gold has extended his contract with the Premiership club for another year after saving them from relegation.

    The 49-year-old, who also has Premiership coaching experience with London Irish, Newcastle and Bath, arrived in January on an interim basis.

    Since then, Worcester have won four of his eight games in charge.

    "I've been blown away by this group of players and thoroughly enjoyed coming to work," the South African said.

  12. Women's refuge to open in Herefordpublished at 16:15 British Summer Time 25 April 2017

    A new refuge for women and children fleeing from domestic abuse will open in Hereford later this year.

    West Mercia Housing are building the centre that will be run by West Mercia Women’s Aid.

    It will open in late summer and will replace the existing one in the city.

    The centre will be purpose built and will have self-contained units which offer a more comfortable environment for women and families, in particular for those who may find communal living difficult.

    The new refuge will have eight units, accommodating eight families.

  15. Concern as teenager offered lift by two men in a vanpublished at 15:36 British Summer Time 25 April 2017

    A 16-year-old girl was approached by two men in a van who offered her a lift. 

    West Mercia Police say , externalthe teenager was walking along a road in Buntsford Hill, Bromsgrove when she became aware of a white van pulling slowly alongside her.

    The driver asked the girl if she wanted a lift - a spokesman says the passenger laughed throughout the exchange which happened on 18 April at 14:20. 

    The men drove off when the girl met up with her boyfriend. 

  16. MEP resigns from top job over 'misguided' manifesto policypublished at 14:54 British Summer Time 25 April 2017

    A UKIP MEP for the West Midlands, including Worcestershire, has resigned from a top job in the party, following a proposed "burka ban".

    Jim Carver, who lives in Worcester, announced this afternoon that he's to stand down as the party's foreign and commonwealth affairs spokesperson following what he describes as a "misguided" integration policy in the party's general election manifesto.

     UKIP has outlined plans to ban the full-face veil traditionally worn by some Muslim women and to introduce the medical examination of some children who might be at risk of female genital mutilation.

    A Worcestershire couple are hoping their bed and breakfast will be named the friendliest in the country.

    Graham and Karen Ellaway-Bell's business in Malvern is one of 24 finalists in next month's AA B&B awards. 

    The winner will be announced at the London Landmark Hotel on 8 May.
