    Churches across the West Midlands are warning of an increasing number of lead thefts. 

    In one of the latest incidents thieves climbed more than 50ft (15m) onto the roof of St Andrew's Church in Ombersley near Worcester.

  4. West Midlands Safari Park opens academypublished at 12:50 British Summer Time 25 April 2017

    West Midland Safari Park, external is today officially opening its new Safari Academy. 

    The education centre at the site in Bewdley has been designed specifically for visiting schools.

    It will feature five classrooms for groups of all ages, including pre-schools, nurseries, university groups and adult learners. 

    It will offer an introduction into the world of animal keeping. 

    There is also a five-day course which will have practical and theoretical elements, including information on animal care, conservation work and careers with animals.

    The University of Worcester Arena will host a national basketball tournament tomorrow where wheelchair and running players compete in the same teams.

    Schools and colleges from across the country will travel to compete in the one-day tournament. 

    Inclusive Zone Basketball (IZB) brings together both the running and wheelchair basketball games, enabling children of all abilities to experience basketball alongside their friends and peers.

  7. Taxi driver robbed and assaulted in Worcesterpublished at 11:59 British Summer Time 25 April 2017

    A taxi driver was robbed and assaulted in Worcester yesterday, police say, external.

    The man in his 40s picked up a fare on Back Lane South, Worcester - he was then assaulted with a "bladed weapon" and took money from the front of the car.

    The victim suffered a cut to his hand and was taken to Worcester Royal Hospital.

    West Mercia Police say they arrested a 29-year-old man from Worcester and a 23-year-old man from Evesham on suspicion of robbery in connection with this incident - both have been released "under investigation".   

  8. New benefit means increased demand for food banks says charitypublished at 11:37 British Summer Time 25 April 2017

    The demand on food banks in Herefordshire and Worcestershire is increasing, according to a charity.

    Research by the Trussell Trust, external found that food banks in areas where Universal Credit has been rolled out have seen twice the national average increases in referral rates.

    As of last month there were 3,307 people in Herefordshire and Worcestershire receiving Universal Credit.

  9. Kian Dale: Advice not to use child bath seatspublished at 11:16 British Summer Time 25 April 2017

    The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents, external are warning parents not to use child bath seats.

    The advice comes as 28-year-old Lisa Passey and 46-year-old Wayne Dale from Tenbury Wells begin an eight-year jail sentence for manslaughter.

    Their 13-month-old son Kian died after being left unattended in a bath in 2015 - he was found lying over the back of a bath seat with his head under water.

    We mentioned earlier that Worcestershire County Cricket Club has voted in favour of the new city-based T20 competition. 

    For those - like me - who aren't totally au fait with the ins and outs (excuse the puns) of the new T20 competition, here's how it'll work.

    • Eight new teams playing 36 games over a 38-day summer window, with four home games each
    • All games televised, with significant free-to-air exposure
    • No scheduling overlap with the existing T20 Blast competition
    • An Indian Premier League-style play-off system to give more incentive for finishing higher up the league
    • A players' draft, with squads of 15 including three overseas players
    • Counties guaranteed £1.3m each
  12. Cricket: Worcestershire vote in favour of T20 changespublished at 09:28 British Summer Time 25 April 2017

    Worcestershire County Cricket Club have given their backing to the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) proposals to change the T20 to a new city-based competition, planned for 2020.

    It would remove the right of all 18 counties to play in the new tournament.

    Worcester Warriors' former British Lions lock, Donncha O'Callaghan, has signed a new deal at the club.

    O'Callaghan has recently been captaining the side as the Warriors have pulled away from the relegation zone.

    A man is being treated in hospital after suffering a broken jaw in an attack in Bromsgrove. 

    Police were called to Byron Way at around 20:15 on Saturday night following reports a man was being dragged into a car. 

    Officers say, external the 25-year-old, who's undergone surgery, had been assaulted by two men.
