  1. Contaminated blood inquiry an 'enormous relief' says campaignerpublished at 08:41 British Summer Time 12 July 2017

    A Worcestershire campaigner says she's relieved the government has finally announced there will be an inquiry into the contaminated blood scandal.

    During the 1970s and 1980s, NHS patients were given blood products that were infected with diseases, such as hepatitis C and HIV.

    Collette Wintle, who lives in Worcester, developed cirrhosis of the liver following a contaminated blood transfusion.

    She says she hopes others like her and the families of those who died will finally get justice.

  5. Kidderminster's new station: Check out the planspublished at 17:46 British Summer Time 11 July 2017

    There's a chance to look in detail at the plans to redevelop Kidderminster railway station.

    Plans will go on display at the station tomorrow, and officers from Worcestershire County Council will be there to answer questions.

    The event will run from 07:00 until 18:30.

    The £4.3m project, which is being co-ordinated by the county council, is due to be completed in the summer of 2019.

  6. Pillar and telephone boxes needed for dementia gardenpublished at 17:41 British Summer Time 11 July 2017

    An appeal has gone out for old-style pillar and telephone boxes to form part of a dementia garden at a hospital.

    Worcestershire Royal Hospital say a disused space is being turned into into a "safe and engaging area for patients with dementia", and the pillar and telephone boxes will be provide the "finishing touches".

    The hospital say including traditional items such as post boxes and red telephones booths could help patients with dementia feel more at home and familiar with their surroundings, in turn helping their medical symptoms.

    Seven young people from the Worcester area have just completed a business "boot camp" devised by Peter Jones from Dragons Den.

    Be Your Own Boss is an intensive 14-week programme designed to turn their lives around so they can get a job, start an apprenticeship or set up their own business.

    Deanna Brazier, who's 22 and mother to two children, has now got a job as a carer.

    Her long-term ambition is to set up a nursery in Worcester for children with autism, providing lots of musical opportunities to support their development.

    NHS Blood and Transplant says the number of people on the Organ Donor Register has increased by 27% over the past five years.

    It says despite the rise there is still a shortage of donors.

    The Wych Barge in Droitwich has been vandalised only a month after it was repaired, the council say.

    The landmark was installed in 2011 in the park near the re-opened canal and was renovated over the spring.

    A parent's cheerleading team from a dance school in Malvern have won a national competition.

    The 25-strong team from the Dance In Motion Academy, are all in their 30s and 40s, includes one dad.

    An inquiry will be held into the contaminated blood scandal that left at least 2,400 people dead, the prime minister has confirmed.

    It will establish the causes of the "appalling injustice" that took place in the 1970s and 1980s.

    Collette Wintle, from Worcester, one of those infected with contaminated blood, has been campaigning for a public inquiry, claiming the government is "at fault".

    A driver who almost caused a multi-vehicle accident after trying to overtake "at high speed" is being sought by the police, external.

    West Mercia Police say a black Audi A5 was travelling southbound on the A38 to the Copcut Island near Droitwich (pictured) when the driver attempted to overtake another car.

    The driver lost control of the Audi, skidding at high speed and "very nearly coming into collision with other vehicles around", a spokesman said.

  17. Cycle and parking transformation on way to Herefordpublished at 13:52 British Summer Time 11 July 2017

    Plans to develop parts of Hereford city centre have been announced.

    Herefordshire Council is planning to build a new cycle lane between Green Street and St Peter’s Square, as well on-street parking in St Owen Street to improve access to the city centre.

    A new transport hub will also be introduced to make travel by bus or train around the city easier, and the council says work will be complete by 2020.

    The scheme will be unveiled at Hereford Town Hall on 19 July, with the consultation running until 30 August.
