  2. New severe flood warnings issuedpublished at 15:29 Greenwich Mean Time 17 February 2020
    Breaking

    Two new severe flood warnings, external have been issued for the West Midlands, with properties in Upton upon Severn in Worcestershire now expected to flood.

    The flooding could begin as early as 03:00 on Tuesday, said the Environment Agency with a predicted peak of the river due later tomorrow.

    The two warnings are for New Street and Waterside in the town.

    A severe warning remains in place for Blackmarstone in Hereford and a new one also issued for the Severn at Uckinghall in Gloucestershire.

  4. Storm Dennis: Fallen tree closes rail linepublished at 15:14 Greenwich Mean Time 17 February 2020

    A tree has fallen on to overhead electric rail wires near Bloxwich blocking the line between Birmingham New Street and Rugeley Trent Valley.

    Buses are set to run and tickets are being accepted on alternative services.

  5. Houses hit by flooding along with cafe and pubpublished at 15:10 Greenwich Mean Time 17 February 2020

    Six houses have been flooded in the Worcestershire village of Wolverley, Wyre Forest District Council says.

    The flooding also affected the pub and the cafe.

    The riverside at nearby Stourport-on-Severn is also being affected the council added.

    Only the upper car park is open to the rear of the civic centre and the toilets are shut, it said.

  7. Warning issued of risk of further 'significant' floodspublished at 15:00 Greenwich Mean Time 17 February 2020

    There's a potential risk of "further and significant" flooding in Greyfriars and Hampton Bishop in Herefordshire said the county council., external

    Residents have been evacuated from the Hinton and Putson areas of Hereford today where river levels are expected to remain high over the next couple of days.

    The river at Ross-on-Wye is expected to peak tomorrow with risk of further flooding at Ross and at Symonds Yat, it added.

    Relief centres are being set up for any residents who are asked to leave their property.

  8. One severe flood warning remainspublished at 14:54 Greenwich Mean Time 17 February 2020

    There's now only one remaining severe flood warning , externalin place in England, for the River Wye in Hereford.

    Severe flood warnings in Ludlow, Ashford Carbonel and Tenbury Wells have been downgraded to flood warnings.

    River levels peaked earlier at 6.11m in Hereford - the highest ever recorded.

    Further rainfall is expected over the next 12 hours said the Environment Agency.

    Herefordshire Council said it was aware of public concern regarding Greyfriars Bridge in the city, but it was "not at risk" at this time.

  10. River Severn floods centre of Shrewsburypublished at 14:39 Greenwich Mean Time 17 February 2020

    We're hearing that floodwater has broken the banks of the River Severn in Shrewsbury and spilled on to Smithfield Road, one of the busiest in the town, and Chester Street (pictured below).

    Coton Hill is closed, but currently one lane is open on Smithfield Road in each direction. Water there is ankle-deep in parts and rising.

    Two flood warnings are in force for the town, with the river set to peak later today. More rain is forecast for the next 12 hours.

    Drivers are also being urged to avoid the Harlescott area of Shrewsbury this afternoon if possible.

    Harlescott Lane is closed while emergency services respond to an incident at the level crossing, and Battlefield Link Road remains closed due to flooding.

    Flooding is also affecting Gravel Hill lane, Sydney Avenue, Victoria Avenue, Frankwell car park and St Julian's Friars car park.

    Twelve flood warnings are in place , externalthat could affect Warwickshire, said the Environment Agency, with dozens of flood alerts also issued.

    These pictures were taken in Kenilworth where a flood alert has been issued for the River Avon between Rubgy and Bidford-on-Avon.

    The flood warnings are mainly affecting the River Anker, the Blythe, the Leam and the Mease.

    Flooding in Evesham, Worcestershire, is affecting properties in the Waterside Road area as well as the car park on the meadow.

    The River Avon peaked overnight, but river levels are expected to remain high over the next few days with a flood warning still in place.

  16. Floods affecting rail linespublished at 14:00 Greenwich Mean Time 17 February 2020

    Floods are affecting rail services across the region.

    • Trains are unable to run between Walsall and Rugeley Trent Valley with tickets being accepted on other services.
    • A bus service is operating between Newport and Hereford with a limited service running between Shrewsbury and Llanelli, said Transport for Wales.

  20. 'Million litres of water' on A38 near Lichfieldpublished at 13:33 Greenwich Mean Time 17 February 2020

    There is about a million litres of water lying on part of the A38 near Lichfield, Staffordshire Fire Service has said.

    The flooding is across the southbound side which is shut between the A513 for Alrewas and the A5127, Highways England said, external.

    The fire service added, external that, with water levels due to rise in the next 24 hours, it had made a joint decision with Highways England and contractors to leave the floodwater for the time being as "there is currently nowhere for it to go".

    Elsewhere in the county, the Environment Agency said there had been flooding near the Meadowside Leisure Centre in Burton-upon-Trent and on Blithbury Road, in Rugeley:
