    People across the West Midlands are being warned to expect more flooding on Tuesday as river levels continue to rise.

    There are six severe flood warnings in place across the region, external and the Environment Agency says it is concerned water levels could rise above the top of its defences.

    West Mercia Police and Staffordshire Police , externalhave also warned residents in Shrewsbury, Bridgnorth, Burton and Lichfield to be prepared for further flooding.

    Some Herefordshire villages have been left "completely cut off" by floodwater in the wake of Storm Dennis, a local resident has said.

    "I think most of the villages in Hereford have been cut off. It's crazy," Laura Yarwood, from Bodenham, said.

    "It's the worst anyone in Hereford has ever seen it to be, and the fact that communities are being evacuated, that's unheard of."

    "It's shown that the community is really together but it has been, I think, devastating for a lot of people."

    A family rescued from flooding in Tenbury Wells said it could be six months before they return to their home.

    They were also affected by the floods that hit the town in 2007.

    The river Teme has now peaked, with floodwaters set to recede.

    People living in areas of Worcestershire near the River Severn are being asked to leave their homes as water levels continue to rise.

    West Mercia Police said , externalthe evacuation advice followed severe flood warnings being issued this afternoon for Upton upon Severn and nearby Uckinghall.

    In connection, a "rest centre" has been set up at Upton Hill Community Centre on Milestone Road, Upton.

    The river level - which peaked earlier - didn't exceed that registered in the 2007 flood, but the impact seems to be greater in the town.

    Two new severe flood warnings have been issued in the West Midlands, external, with homes and businesses in Hampton Bishop, near Hereford, expected to be hit.

    Severe warnings suggest a danger to life. The rivers Lugg and Wye in the area continue to rise following Storm Dennis.

    The warnings join two others for Upton upon Severn in Worcestershire and one for Blackmarstone in Hereford.

  14. Roads closed by flooding in Shrewsburypublished at 16:24 Greenwich Mean Time 17 February 2020

    More than a dozen roads are currently shut in Shrewsbury following the River Severn bursting its banks this afternoon.

    They include some of the main routes through the town, including Coton Hill, Longden Coleham and Coleham Head, and Raven Meadows (except for access).

    One lane is closed on Smithfield Road and it may soon be shut completely, Shropshire Council is warning.

    Outside Shrewsbury, the Atcham to Cross Houses road is closed, as is Cressage to Eaton Constantine.

    All closures are on the Shropshire Council , externalwebsite which includes 13 in the town and three in the surrounding area.

    Roads around Hereford and Shrewsbury continue to be affected by flooding this afternoon.

    West Mercia Police tweeted that the B4224 near Fownhope, close to Hereford, was closed after part of the route gave way.

  16. Hundreds of properties affected by flood waterpublished at 15:59 Greenwich Mean Time 17 February 2020

    About 420 properties have been flooded across the UK due to Storm Dennis, with about 270 of those in the West Midlands, said the Environment Agency.

    It estimated that 18,500 properties had been protected from flooding.

    Worcestershire has borne the brunt of the floods with about 200 homes affected, according to figures from the Environment Agency's John Curtin.

    Fire crews are checking for stranded people in Shrewsbury after the River Severn burst its banks this afternoon.

    Police in Shrewsbury said, external Coton Hill and the railway bridge were closed now due to flooding, with crews rescuing a motorist stranded under the railway bridge.

    Buses being used in place of rail services between Shrewsbury and Machynlleth have been stopped from going in or out of Shrewsbury due to the flooding., external

    Transport for Wales had said the line was set to be shut until at least 18:00 and was using road transport instead.

    With the River Severn bursting its banks in Shrewsbury, the operator's now urging customers , externalon the route to find alternative travel arrangements.
