  2. Collapsed wall should be cleared by 17:00published at 15:29 Greenwich Mean Time 20 February 2020

    Workers are hoping to clear a wall that's collapsed between Holt Fleet and Ombersley in Worcestershire by 17:00 said the council. , external

    The obstruction is partially blocking the A4113 close to the farm shop to the west of the Holt Fleet pub.

    There are long delays on all approaches to the site, it added.

  3. Shropshire flooding 'worst in 20 years'published at 15:16 Greenwich Mean Time 20 February 2020

    The flooding this week in Shropshire's been the biggest emergency in the last 20 years, according to the council's chief executive.

    Heavy rain over the weekend saw places including Shrewsbury, Clun, Ludlow and Bridgnorth suffer wide-scale flooding.

    Shropshire Council Chief Executive Clive Wright said flood barriers were staying up with some more rain expected today.

    "That will top it up a little bit but nothing that should give us any concerns as long as the weather forecast holds true," he added.

    The council reminded people not to attempt to drive through the standing water.

    A close eye's being kept on the River Vyrnwy in north Shropshire amid flooding in and around Melverley.

    The area on the Welsh border's covered with two flood warnings, external for the waterway and the Environment Agency said this morning river levels are continuing to slowly rise.

  8. Video: Rescue boat crew pull man from swollen riverpublished at 14:20 Greenwich Mean Time 20 February 2020

    Emergency services arrived at Copenhagen Street in Worcester at about 12:20, after reports that a man had fallen into the swollen river from the back of a residential property next to Worcester Cathedral.

    A fire rescue boat was deployed which travelled about 700m downstream and pulled the man from the water.

    He was treated by paramedics at the scene before being taken to Worcestershire Royal Hospital in a serious condition.

  9. 'I've been on bacon butty duty since Sunday'published at 14:11 Greenwich Mean Time 20 February 2020

    People in Ironbridge may have been flooded this week but they've told BBC Shropshire they are rallying around each other.

    Dale End is next to the River Severn, which burst its banks after Storm Dennis, and waters spilled into several homes and businesses.

    Gareth, who lives in the area, said he'd been on "bacon butty duty" since Sunday.

    "Next door to us is a holiday let. Two gentlemen arrived late on Sunday night and woke up Monday morning to find the house surrounded, cut off, so we provided sandwiches for them," he said.

    While Brooke, who owns the local hair salon, wasn't as badly flooded as others but praised everyone in the area who had offered support.

    "The community, especially down here at Dale End, it's just insane. We've had so much support, offers of support from strangers, people that I've never met before," she said.

    Residents in Severn Stoke, Worcestershire, are facing another day cut off by floodwaters.

    The nearby River Severn remains high and has burst its banks and the Environment Agency's warned more rain's expected.

    This satellite image released by the Environment Agency, external shows the extent of flooding across England and Wales in the wake of Storm Dennis.

    Dave Throup, from the organisation, said the levels in Bewdley were the highest in 20 years.

    A man is in a serious condition after being pulled from floodwater in Worcester by firefighters.

    Emergency services were called to reports of a patient in the water near to Copenhagen Street in Worcester at 12:11, said the ambulance service.

    "He was treated by ambulance staff at the scene before being transported by land ambulance to Worcester Royal Hospital in a serious condition.”

    Motorists are continuing to put themselves in danger in Herefordshire by moving road closure signs, the local authority has said.

    Herefordshire Council said, external in one instance barriers put in place due to structural damage beneath the surface of Holme Lacy Causeway, south of Hereford, were moved.

    While they said, external drivers also ignored signs on the C1098 between Madley and Bridge Sollars (pictured below), west of Hereford, despite "significant flooding".

    At least 16 roads are still shut in Shropshire due to flooding or damage from floodwater.

    Shropshire Council said at midday , externaleight were in Shrewsbury and eight in surrounding areas.

    Three car parks in Shrewsbury, Frankwell Riverside, Frankwell Main and St Julian’s Friar’s remain closed, as is Riverside in Bridgnorth.

    The council adds bus services in Bridgnorth and Shrewsbury are back to normal.

  15. 'We didn't get the sandbags from the council'published at 13:10 Greenwich Mean Time 20 February 2020

    Shropshire Council has been urged to do more in future to protect businesses in Shrewsbury by a local shopkeeper who said they didn't get any advice or sandbags when this week's flooding started.

    Susan Newman, who owns Belle gift shop on Longden Coleham, told BBC Shropshire they had to get sandbags from a friend and Shropshire Council's support could have come sooner.

    "I think that it is pretty frightening, trying to get the electrics off the floor, you're not quite sure what you should be doing, cars going up and down the road and the waves are coming back into the shop," she added.

    The shop's expected to reopen this afternoon after being cleaned.

    The council said it was going to try and set up a meeting with businesses in the town to work on future protection.

    The Army is helping critical care workers get to where they need to be as floodwater continues to affect many roads in Herefordshire.

    Soldiers from the 5th Battalion Rifles Regiment have been deployed to the area to help with the ongoing flood relief efforts.

    "We pride outselves in being ready to assist people of the nation in times of need," the British Army tweeted.

    "For most, Storm Dennis has passed, but in Herefordshire it's still raining".

    People living in 18 properties in Bewdley were advised to evacuate yesterday, the fire service , externalsaid, although some residents opted to stay.

    Boat crews were used to visit properties inaccessible by road.

    "Most residents said that they were used to flooding and had already moved much of their furniture upstairs," it added.

    Rest centres have been set up and accommodation arranged for those who need it.

    Emergency services also visited a nearby caravan park with some of the caravans moved to higher ground.

    Flooding's still blocking roads in Herefordshire and Worcestershire and, on top of that, the A4133's partially blocked after a wall collapse.

    West Mercia Police said, external it happened near the farm shop to the west of the Holt Fleet pub on the Ombersley side of the Holt Fleet Bridge.

    A tree's also come down on the A4104 in the Upon upon Severn area, outside Milestone Farm House, but the force said council workers and residents were already using chainsaws to clear it., external

    While in Hereford, the county council said, external a footpath which runs alongside the River Wye between Asda and the Old Bridge is closed "due to extensive flood damage".

    A GP surgery is still closed today in Shrewsbury after the flooding this week.

    Riverside Medical Practice says on its website , externalit is running a reduced service and will be contacting patients with routine appointments to look at alternative locations.

    Shropshire Clinical Commissioning Group says , externala decision will be made this afternoon on whether it'll open tomorrow.

    It adds Roushill Pharmacy in the town has reopened.
