    Phillip Simmons, 38, of May Street, Hull has been charged with two counts of murder and robbery. 

    He appeared at Hull Magistrates Court this morning and was remanded in custody.

    He will now appear at Hull Crown Court on Wednesday.

    The bodies of Daniel Hatfield, 52 and Matthew Higgins, 49 were found at a house on May Street with "significant multiple injuries" on Friday.

    Cottingham Cricket Club's been vandalised over the weekend. 

    Equipment was thrown on the field and paint daubed on doors including a swastika.

    Holy Trinity Church in Hull is offering free performance space to musicians, artists and groups in the run up to 2017, Hull’s year as the UK’s City of Culture.

    Aimed at acoustic performers the church is offering artists and groups the opportunity to perform in front of an audience and hone their skills.

    Plans for a sculpture near the remains of Hull's ancient defence walls have been criticised by the Chamber of Commerce.

    Hull and Humber Chamber of Commerce said the 33ft (10m) stainless steel sculpture next to Hull's Beverley Gate relic was like a "granny's vase".

    The gate was where King Charles I was refused entry to Hull in 1642, sparking the English Civil War.

    Hull City Council said it has submitted plans for "an engaging piece of art" but the chamber will ask the council to reconsider the plan.

  7. Possible merger of Humberside and North Yorkshire fire servicespublished at 09:34 British Summer Time 25 April 2016

    Humberside Fire and Rescue service say they could merge with the neighbouring North Yorkshire force to save money. 

    It comes as fire service officials are also considering closing one of the fire stations at Immingham.

    Hull City Council say they are currently clearing around 500 tonnes of fly-tipping mess a year and investigating between 400 and 500 reports a month. 

    Today they'll discuss whether to spend £60,000 in an effort to clean up our streets.

    The two women who were arrested in connection with two deaths in Hull have been released from custody.

    The 36-year-old woman has been released on police bail until next month and the 27-year-old woman has been released unconditionally.

    It follows the news that Phillip Simmons, 38 of May Street Hull has been charged on two counts of murder and one of burglary.

    He'll appear at Hull magistrates court later.

    A man has been charged with a double murder following the discovery of two bodies on May Street in Hull.

    Phillip Simmons, 38, of May Street has been charged on two counts of murder and one of burglary.

    The bodies of Daniel Hatfield, 52 and Matthew Higgins, 49 were found with "significant multiple injuries" on Friday.
