Beverley plane crash: Pilot not qualified for night flightpublished at 11:23 British Summer Time 18 July 2019
A light aircraft pilot who died alongside his passenger when he crashed near Beverley Airfield was not qualified to fly at night, an investigation has found.
The 76-year-old pilot and his passenger died when his Cessna F172 Skyhawk crashed on farmland near the airport at about 18:30 on 10 October.
He was flying from Scotland to Beverley in October but was delayed because of technical problems, meaning he would have to land in the dark.
An investigation by the Air Accidents Investigation Branch found the pilot didn't hold a licence for night flying.
The report, external also found the pilot was attempting to land after asking a friend to light up the airfield using his car's headlights.
