  2. Investment for Dover?published at 21:35 British Summer Time 7 September 2016

    Roads surrounding the Port of Dover could receive extra Government funding to relieve pressure, the Prime Minister has announced. 

    Theresa May told the Commons this afternoon that the area will be considered as part of the "next road investment strategy".

    It follows chaos at the start of the summer holidays, when motorists travelling to the port queued for up to 17 hours because of enhanced French security checks.

    A lorry driver who tried to smuggle 400,000 cigarettes through Dover by hiding them in boxes of ice cream has been jailed for 14 months.

    UK Border Force officers stopped Krysztof Wiktorowicz at the Eastern Docks in November 2014, when they found the cigarettes worth almost £100,000 in duty in taxes.

    David Hopper's daughter wasn't allowed in yesterday, and today she's been refused for a totally different reason. Mr Hopper was caught on camera confronting head teacher Matthew Tate.

    A former UKIP MEP's chief of staff has been sentenced to four months in prison, suspended for a year, and 40 hours of community work, following an expenses scam.

    In March 2015 Christine Hewitt was secretly filmed at a restaurant, appearing to ask for an invoice for a much higher sum than the bill she had originally received.

    Janice Atkinson MEP was suspended from UKIP as a result.

    He's admitted a child sex offence in court.

    There are plans to build "big new wall" in Calais as part of security arrangements, according to Home Office minister Robert Goodwood.

    It would be a 4m high, 1km long barrier.

    More pupils have been turned away from classes at Hartsdown Academy in Margate in the headteacher's crackdown on students who flout uniform rules.

    An undisclosed number of children were denied entry for apparently wearing the wrong clothes. 

    It was the second consecutive day that students had been turned away from lessons for breaching the uniform policy of the school under new head Matthew Tate.

    They say she was sent home because her shoes weren't "leather" or "leather-look".
