    Any daytime showers will ease to leave a dry night, with clear spells for many. Winds are expected to be light.

    It will be a fine, dry and bright start to Saturday, although it may turn increasingly cloudy and windy from western parts such as Blackpool, with outbreaks of rain arriving into the evening.

  3. Police hunt Lostock Hall shop robberspublished at 15:47 British Summer Time 5 August 2016

    Detectives are appealing for information after two men robbed a shop in Lostock Hall.

    The men entered the Kwik Stop Shop in Linden Drive around 21:00 yesterday.

    One of the offenders jumped behind the till and took some cash while the second man waited in the doorway, before fleeing.

  4. Helmshore murder accused's 'error of judgement'published at 14:57 British Summer Time 5 August 2016

    A woman accused of murdering Lancashire businesswoman Sadie Hartley has told a jury that lying to the police was "a chronic error of judgement." 

    Sarah Williams denies killing Ms Hartley at her home in Helmshore earlier this year. 

    She's spent the morning being cross examined by the QC representing her co-defendant Katrina Walsh, who also denies murder.

  5. Chorley A&E closure: Lancashire Teaching Hospitals Trust requests reviewpublished at 14:19 British Summer Time 5 August 2016

    A hospital trust has called for an independent review of the decision not to reopen an emergency department.

    In April, Chorley Hospital had eight of the 14 doctors it needed

    Chorley Hospital's emergency unit was shut and downgraded to an urgent care centre in April. 

    It was due to reopen, but after staff levels were found to be too low to be "safe and sustainable", it was decided it will remain closed until April 2017. 

    Lancashire Teaching Hospitals Trust said a review would find if that was the "safest option".

  6. Smaller homes plan for former Camelot site in Chorleypublished at 13:44 British Summer Time 5 August 2016

    Developers looking to build new homes on the site of the former Camelot Theme Park in Chorley have reduced the size of their plans.

    Story Homes wanted to build 420 houses - but those plans were rejected by Chorley Council. 

    Now it's looking to submit revised plans for 200 houses after holding public consultation events. 

    Camelot closed down in 2012 after being open for nearly 30 years.

    It will be mostly dry and bright, with sunny spells and light winds this afternoon. 

    However, there is the chance of a few light showers developing. It will feel quite pleasant in the sunshine.

    There are reports of queueing traffic and two lanes blocked due to multi-vehicle accident on the M6, travelling northbound between Lancaster Services and junction 33 at Galgate.

  10. Car crashes into front room of Preston housepublished at 12:45 British Summer Time 5 August 2016

    This was the scene after a car crashed through a wall and into the front room of a house.

    Fire crews were called to the incident in Sandygate Lane in Preston, Lancashire.

    They used a winch to haul the Suzuki from the house. No-one was injured.

    Lancashire Fire and Rescue said the building needed shoring up to prevent structural damage.

    The trust which runs Chorley Hospital's A&E department has asked for an independent review into the temporary closure of the unit.

    On Wednesday it was announced that it would remain closed for the rest of the year with a review to take place next April.

    The chief executive of the trust, Karen Partington, says she has asked the NHS Improvement Commissions for a review of the risk assessment that resulted in the closure.
