    A nine-year-old boy who was hit by a car while crossing the road has died from his injuries, police said.

    The 25-year-old driver of a white BMW 4 Series has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

    The boy suffered multiple injuries and died later in hospital after being hit at 22.55 BST on Thursday as he crossed Whalley New Road in Blackburn.

    Lancashire Police have appealed for witnesses to the collision to contact them.

    Hustle on Spring Garden Street was receiving complaints from nearby residents, so staff have started giving out lollipops.

    The club's owner Sam Jones said it does seem to be making a difference.

    A plot to murder a woman's love rival was recorded in the diary of one of the accused, a court has heard.

    Sarah Williams, 35, told Preston Crown Court, she did not know why her friend Katrina Walsh, 56, wrote about a plot to murder Sadie Hartley, 60.

    Ms Hartley, from Chester, was paralysed with a stun gun and stabbed 40 times in Helmshore on 14 January.

    Both Ms Williams and Ms Walsh deny murdering the mother-of-two.

    A year on from the water crisis that left 300,000 homes in Lancashire without drinkable tap water, investigators say they that are still no clearer about what caused the contamination.

    The outbreak is still being investigated by the Drinking Water Inspectorate.  

    For over 30 days, residents had to boil their water after traces of the parasite cryptosporidium were found at a water treatment works near Preston and United Utilities paid out £25m in compensation. 

    The bug can cause diarrhoea and abdominal cramps.

    Manager John Coleman and his assistant Jimmy Bell have signed new rolling two-year deals with Accrington Stanley.

    Coleman, 53, began his second spell in charge in 2014 and led them to fourth in League Two in 2015-16, missing automatic promotion on the final day.

    Working with Bell, he managed Stanley from 1999 to 2012, guiding them to the Football League from the eighth tier.
