    A man killed his friend when he drove a car into a crowd in a "drink-fuelled rage" outside a club, a court heard.

    Nathan Marshall, 30, died after being struck outside the Salisbury Club in Truro Avenue, Stockport, on 27 May.

    Jonathan Snape, 30, was allegedly aiming for another man with whom he had fought earlier in the night, Minshull Street Crown Court heard.

    Mr Snape, of Yew Tree Lane, Manchester, denies murder, attempted murder and wounding with intent.

    He earlier pleaded guilty to inflicting grievous bodily harm, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and dangerous driving.

    The trial continues.

    A man has been charged with murdering a mother-of-two at her home.

    Samantha Gosney, 29, was found dead by police officers at her home on Swan Avenue in St Helens, Merseyside, just before midday on Saturday.

    Ms Gosney, who had two young children, died from multiple stab wounds, a post-mortem examination found.

    Adam Brettle, of no fixed address, has been charged with her murder and will appear before magistrates in Liverpool on Wednesday.

    No further action will be taken against a man and a woman, aged 45 and 43, from Warrington and a 67-year-old woman from St Helens arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

    A man was run over and killed by his friend in a "drink fuelled rage", a court has heard.

    Minshull Street Crown Court heard Nathan Marshall, 30, from Reddish, Stockport died after being run over by an Audi driven by Jonathan Snape outside the Salisbury Club in Brinnington.

    Mr Snape, who is also 30, has denied murder and attempted murder.

    The jury heard that after an earlier fight with another man, Mr Snape drove the car at a group of people in an attempt to kill him.

    However, Mr Marshall fell beneath the car instead and was dragged for some distance, suffering fatal injuries in the process.

    The trial continues.

  16. Driver dies in Lancaster wall crashpublished at 17:40 Greenwich Mean Time 27 November 2018

    A 27-year-old woman died when her car hit a wall in Lancaster.

    Police were called to Kellet Lane at about 20:35 on Monday and found a Vauxhall Corsa which had been involved in a crash.

    The victim, from Lancaster, was pronounced dead at the scene.

    Lancashire Constabulary said it did not believe any other vehicles were involved in the crash and appealed for witnesses.

    A man has been charged with the murder of an 18-year-old during a dispute in Manchester.

    Sait Mboob, 18, was stabbed to death on 8 August last year in a disturbance on Crosshill Road, Moss Side.

    Chervon Pinnock, of Clinton Avenue, Fallowfield has been charged with murder and three counts of assault.

    The 21-year-old has been remanded in custody and is due to appear at Manchester and Salford Magistrates' Court on Wednesday.

    He grew up in East Anglia until his father's death when he was 16 and his mother moved back to her native Clitheroe.

    "I will never live anywhere else," he said.

    Mr Hailwood said his favourite place is the top of Clitheroe Castle for its breathtaking views.

    "It has a 360 view where you can see Blackpool and Preston to Pendle and beyond."

    Blackburn College has begun a consultation with staff to cut up to 41 jobs because of “increasing financial pressure”.

    The college – which provides A-level tuition, vocational courses, degrees and adult education – said the cuts were equivalent to 25 full-time posts, or 3% of its workforce, and mostly affected administration staff.

    The University and College Union described the consultation as “a disaster for staff and students” and said the college was “struggling to function effectively”.

    Graham Towse, the college’s interim principal, said: “We will do all we can to prevent any compulsory redundancies.”
