    It'll feel bitterly cold as winds become strong to gale force northerly.

    We'll have more on the announcement by the government that it's to re-examine its policy on transgender prisoners following the death of a woman in a male prison in Leeds.

    Vicky Thompson, from Keighley, was found dead in her cell at HMP Leeds in Armley last Friday.

    According to Luke Anderson, who was born Laura and began transitioning aged 27, the gender recognition certificate should be scrapped.

    His comments come following the death of a transgender woman in a male prison in Leeds.

    The chef from Cheshire won TV reality show Big Brother in 2012 and married wife Jamie-Lee two years later. They are now undergoing IVF and hope to become parents.

    He says the certificate is a "meaningless scrap of paper", adding:"Being trans doesn't define me and I don't need a scrap of paper to say I'm a man."

  5. Judge warns Leeds postman attacker to expect jail sentencepublished at 17:26

    A judge at Leeds Crown Court has told a man who's pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of a postman in the city 20 years ago, he should be under no illusions what his sentence will be.

    Andrew Batten, who lived in Beeston, had gone out after finishing work and was still wearing his Royal Mail uniform when he was attacked.

    He was found on the pavement by an ambulance crew after an anonymous call and was taken to Leeds General Infirmary with a fractured skull. He died two days later.  

    Anthony John McDonnell, 45, of Whitebridge Avenue, Leeds, pleaded guilty to manslaughter and was bailed until 7 January 2016.

    As it's revealed the government is reviewing how it cares for transgender prisoners following the death of Vicky Thompson in HMP Leeds, we take a closer look at the gender recognition certificate.

    Deciding which prison to send a person to is currently based on legal gender determined by a birth certificate or a gender recognition certificate.

    But the process of applying for it has been called humiliating leading to a debate about whether the document protects trans rights of infringes them.

    A man has admitted the manslaughter of a postman who died 20 years ago after being punched in the head. 

    Anthony John McDonnell, 45, of Whitebridge Avenue, Leeds, pleaded guilty at Leeds Crown Court. 

    Andrew Batten, 42, died in hospital after he was attacked at a taxi rank on Vicar Lane, Leeds, on 13 October 1995.

  11. Parts of fire-ravaged mill in Bradford to be demolishedpublished at 16:52

    Demolition work has begun at a disused mill after a fire ripped through the building.

    About 45 firefighters tackled the blaze at the four-storey Prospect Mill, on Prospect Street, in Thornton, Bradford.

    A Bradford Council spokesperson said: "The owners of the building have appointed contractors to demolish the structurally unsafe parts of the mill. Demolition is taking place today and Thornton Road will be reopened as soon as it is safe to do so."

  12. Boyfriend of Vicky Thompson - 'I loved her with all my heart'published at 16:34

    The boyfriend of a transgender woman who was found dead in jail after being placed in a male prison has said she should never have been sent there.

    Robert Steele spoke to BBC Look North following the death of his partner Vicky Thompson in HMP Leeds, in Armley, on Friday 13 November.

    He said: "She didn't want to be there. She wanted to be in a female prison. I'm nothing without Vicky. I loved her with all my heart."

    The former Chesterfield and Aston Villa man joined the New York Stadium side for an undisclosed fee in July 2014.

  14. Transgender prisoner 'heartbroken and disgusted' at death of Vicky Thompsonpublished at 15:53

    The mother of a transgender woman in jail in Gloucestershire has said her daughter was "heartbroken and disgusted" at hearing of the death of fellow transgender prisoner Vicky Thompson in HMP Leeds.

    Speaking to BBC Radio 5Live, Jackie Brooklyn, whose daughter Tara Hudson recently transferred from a men's to a women's jail, said: "I just think if she [Vicky] was living as a woman she should have been put in a ladies' jail".  

    Tara Hudson, 26, from Bath, was jailed for 12 weeks and placed at the all-male HMP Bristol after admitting assault before being moved to a women's facility.

  15. Woman, 71, dies in hospital after being hit by cyclistpublished at 14:50

    A 71-year-old pedestrian who was seriously injured when she was struck by a cyclist has died in hospital.

    The crash happened at about 11:50 on 1 November at the junction of Church Street and Halifax Road, in Bradford

    West Yorkshire Police, who are appealing for witnesses, said the woman had died in hospital this morning. The 48-year-old cyclist was uninjured.
