    We'll bring you the latest developments after an urgent question was asked in the House of Commons regarding transgender people in prison after Vicky Thompson was found dead at HMP Armley, in Leeds.

    Friends of the 21-year-old, who was born male but had identified as female since her mid-teens, said she had asked to be sent to a female prison.  

    We'll also have a report on claims by some Muslims in Yorkshire who say they are experiencing a backlash after the Paris attacks last Friday.

    A memorial stone has been unveiled to a WW1 soldier whose bravery on the battlefield saw him awarded a Victoria Cross.

    Cpl Samuel Meekosha, 22, from Bradford was with others in an isolated trench near Ypres that was heavily shelled.  

    Many were killed or injured and others buried as a result of the bombardment.  

    He took command of the situation and dug the buried men out in full view of the enemy.

  3. Justice minister expresses sympathy at death of transgender woman in male jailpublished at 12:27

    Justice Minister Andrew Selous has offered his "sincere condolences" to the family and friends of a transgender woman who died in HMP Leeds.

    Responding to an urgent question tabled by Cat Smith MP, he said: "Her death like all others in custody is a tragedy and we are totally committed to reducing the number of deaths in prisons.

    "We believe that Vicky Thompson was being looked after in accordance with the relevant procedures, but that is now a matter for the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman and Coroner."

    He said a review of the policy relating to the care of transgender prisoners had begun earlier this year and revised policy guidance will be issued and implemented "in due course".

  4. Woman and two children taken to hospital after Bradford house firepublished at 12:12

    A woman and two children were taken to hospital following a fire at a property in Bradford.

    West Yorkshire Fire Service said the fire broke out in the roof void of a house in Edlington Close, in Holme Wood, at about 20:30 before spreading to five neighbouring properties.

    A fire service spokesperson said the three were taken to hospital as a "precautionary measure due to smoke inhalation".

  6. Leg-spinner Adil Rashid to join Adelaide Strikerspublished at 10:55

    Yorkshire and England leg-spinner Adil Rashid has signed a contract to play for the Adelaide Strikers in the T20 Big Bash League.

    The 27-year-old will join up with Yorkshire's head coach, Jason Gillespie, who will take charge of the Strikers when the competition begins on 17 December.

  7. Minster to ask urgent question about transgender people in prisonspublished at 10:22

    Labour MP and Shadow Minister for Women Cat Smith is due to ask an urgent question in the House of Commons about transgender people in UK prisons.

    Her question comes after it emerged a transgender woman from Keighley died in a men's prison in Leeds on Friday 13 November.

    Leeds Rhinos prop Mitch Garbutt has extended his deal with the Super League champions until the end of the 2019 season.

    The 26-year-old joined the Rhinos from Brisbane Storm in June and helped the team complete the treble last season.

    He is the third Rhinos player to extend their deal this week after Stevie Ward and Jimmy Keinhorst.

    A transgender woman who told her friends she would kill herself if she was sent to a male prison has been found dead in jail.

    Vicky Thompson, 21, (seen here with boyfriend Robert Steele) was being held at HMP Leeds, in Armley, where she was pronounced dead on Friday.

    Friends of Ms Thompson, who was born male but had identified as female since her mid-teens, said she had asked to be sent to a female prison.

    An investigation into her death has been launched, the Prison Service said.
