  1. Leeds snooker star Grace earns his biggest paydaypublished at 09:30

    Leeds' David Grace says he's "never seen money like it" after guaranteeing a minimum payday of £20,000 for his run to the quarter-finals of the UK Snooker Championship.

    Grace, who first turned professional in 2008 and is ranked 81 in the world, secured the biggest win of his career by beating Peter Ebdon 6-2 in the fourth round at the York Barbican.

    The 30-year-old cleans the snooker tables at the Northern Snooker Centre in Leeds and, before his run in York, has only earned £13,416 in 18 months.

  2. Bridgewater Place: Safety work yet to beginpublished at 09:18

    Safety work to control strong winds near Bridgewater Place in Leeds, Yorkshire's tallest building, has yet to begin.

    Doctor Edward Slaney, a 35-year-old environmental engineer from Sowerby Bridge, was crushed by a lorry as high winds blew near the Leeds skyscraper in 2011.

    Two years ago a coroner said more lives are at risk unless the safety work was done quickly.

  3. Leeds MP Hilary Benn: 'IS hold our democracy in contempt'published at 08:59

    Leeds Labour MP Hilary Benn was applauded by MPs in the Commons last night as he urged Labour members to confront the "evil" posed by Islamic State, who he said "hold our democracy in contempt".

    MPs voted by 397 to 223 to authorise UK air strikes against IS in Syria after a 10-hour Commons debate.

    The shadow foreign secretary and Leeds Central MP made the impassioned speech ahead of the vote.

    The government motion was passed 397 to 223 after a 10-hour debate in the House of Commons. Below is the breakdown of how West Yorkshire's 22 MPs voted.

    West Yorkshire's remaining MPs voted for the motion to support UK air strikes in Syria, the first of which were carried out this morning.

  5. Travel update: A658 in Rawdon closed in both directionspublished at 08:24

    Drivers are being warned to expect delays in Rawdon due to the closure of the A658 Apperley Lane in Rawdon between the B6152 Micklefield Lane junction and the A65 New Road Side junction.

    This is due to a sewer collapse, temporary traffic lights and emergency repairs. There is a diversion place - via Micklefield Lane, the A65 New Road Side.
