  1. Animal welfare charity's sheep-shearing poster: Your reactionpublished at 11:50 British Summer Time 8 April 2016

Lots of you have been getting in touch on Radio Leeds' Facebook page, external, about the posters that have gone up in Halifax and Wakefield, claiming that sheep shearing can be cruel.

The animal welfare charity, PETA, has put up the posters, and they depict what appears to be a sheared sheep with a broken leg.

Sheep grow wool if they were not sheared they would become so heavy like the one they found in Australia, and the tail end becomes infected with fly eggs that turn into lava, and start eating at the flesh.

Farmers in this country are Quality controlled regularly, there is very little abuse to sheep as most are left to roam on out moors and are gathered in and looked after quite well

In this imperfect world we live in, if we all became vegan, ALL animals currently bred for food would be killed as we would need the land for production of food. frown emoticon

  2. Time's up! £1m winning lottery ticket goes unclaimedpublished at 10:38 British Summer Time 8 April 2016

All week we've been trying to find the winner of an unclaimed £1m winning lottery ticket. Believe me, we've been through the bins and down the back of the sofa here too.

Unfortunately, for whoever has it, the deadline for the winner to claim the prize has now come and gone. Camelot says the money will go to help National Lottery-funded projects across the UK.

So if you find it today, I suspect you might have mixed feelings; you've just donated a large wadge of cash to charity. Good. You have to go back to work on Monday. Bad.

  3. Streets to be named after miners who worked therepublished at 10:29 British Summer Time 8 April 2016

Streets on a new estate in Pontefract are to bear the names of some of the miners who once worked at the site.

The Prince of Wales mine in Pontefract was founded in 1980 and closed in 2002. It's now being redeveloped for housing.

The names of three new roads have been chosen by miners who used to work there.

Today Colin Butterwick Square will be unveiled. It's been named in honour of a former under manager who worked at the pit from its opening. He'll be guest of honour at the ceremony.

  4. Listen: Shearing sheep 'no worse than haircut' says former MPpublished at 09:50 British Summer Time 8 April 2016

More on the posters that have been put up by an animal welfare charity in Wakefield and Halifax of the sheep, which they claim, have been badly beaten whilst being sheared.

PETA says it has put the posters up on billboards because the county of West Yorkshire was once known as "the wool capital of the world".

Former Batley and Spen MP Elizabeth Peacock, who has been associated with West Yorkshire's wool trade for decades, says PETA "should declare where the picture was taken".

  5. Your views: Will stricter off-licence rules cut street drinking in Armley?published at 09:27 British Summer Time 8 April 2016

Do you live in Armley? Have you noticed a problem with street drinking? A consultation on plans to deal with people who are getting drunk in public ends today.

If approved by Leeds Council, it will mean that new off-licences will find it much more difficult to open on Town Street.

Existing shops will also be monitored more closely to ensure they're selling alcohol responsibly.

Do you think it'll make a difference? Drop me a line, let me know.

They've been put up by the PETA, the animal welfare charity, and are part of its anti-wool campaign. They show a sheep which has just been sheared and has had its leg broken.

We've cropped the image, but some have branded the image and campaign as "disgusting".

  9. Travel update: One lane closed M62 Westbound J30published at 08:20 British Summer Time 8 April 2016

    BBC Travel

Good news for commuters so far this morning, looks like it's a fairly light morning on the roads. For now.

Just one slight snag on the M62, where we've got one lane closed westbound between J30 (A642 Rothwell) and J29 (M1 Lofthouse). Nothing sinister, it's a broken-down vehicle.

Below is a map of our area, the grey boxes mean minor delays, the red ones mean something more severe.
