    Thousands of junior doctors in West Yorkshire have joined the NHS's first "all-out" strike across England.

    The two days of action follow a dispute over a new contract which the Government plans to impose by the summer despite protests from the British Medical Association. 

    Doctor Daniel Pennells is a junior doctor and part of an on-going protest outside the NHS headquarters in Leeds. He says the public shouldn't worry if they have to go to A&E while the strike is on.

    We're only going to be walking out between 0800 and 1700 both days. During the evening and night shifts junior doctors will be there. During those nine hours, consultants, the most senior doctors in the hospital, will be covering for emergency care.. Please do not delay going to hospital, you will be seen and you will be safe."

    Gaetano Berardi’s season looks to be over after the defender was stretchered from the field with an ankle injury during yesterday’s 2-2 draw at Hull City.

    Leeds United are awaiting video evidence before confirming whether they will issue a formal complaint over allegations that objects were thrown at defender Gaetano Berardi as he was stretchered off during Saturday's game at Hull City. 

    The incident has been mentioned in the referee's post match report. 

    Berardi had a scan on his ankle yesterday as United attempt to determine the extent of the injury.

  5. Bradford kittens 'coloured in' using permanent markerspublished at 11:09 British Summer Time 26 April 2016

    More now on the story that two kittens have been "coloured in", in what an animal charity described as a "dreadful act of cruelty".

    The four-week-old kittens, called Smurf and Shrek, are thought to have been inked by permanent marker pens.

    They were brought to Bradford Cat Watch Rescue on Monday after being found by West Yorkshire Police at a property in the city.

    The former Bradford Bulls coach James Lowes has rejoined rugby union side Yorkshire Carnegie on a consultancy basis until the end of the season. 

    Lowes was head coach of Carnegie in the 2013-14 season having been assistant coach the previous season.

    He will assist current coach Bryan Redpath as the Championship play-offs start this weekend.

    A 34-year-old woman and her six-year-old daughter have gone missing from the Crieff area of Scotland.

    Police have said they are concerned for the welfare of Emma Malloy and her daughter Leah who have not been seen since Friday.

    Their disappearance is said to be out of character and is being treated as high risk.

    Police have said Ms Malloy has connections to the Leeds and Hull areas as well as Edinburgh and the Lothians.

  8. Bradford cat rescue team treat 'coloured in' kittenspublished at 09:54 British Summer Time 26 April 2016

    Two kittens have arrived at a cat rescue centre in Bradford after being "coloured in", literally, with a marker pen.

    The kittens, named Smurf and Shrek, who are aged about four to five weeks old, were discovered by police and arrived at Bradford Cat Watch Rescue (BCWR) on Monday evening.

    An appeal has now been put out by BCWR to help fund the work they carry out.

    Leeds Rhinos captain Danny McGuire is urging people to visit hospital for a heart scan - as it could save their life.

    Danny was speaking as Leeds's Nuffield Hospital officially opened its new £2.6m MRI and CT scanners. 

    He told BBC Radio Leeds that memories of the late Keighley Cougars player Danny Jones are inspiring people to get their hearts checked:

    Thousands of junior doctors in West Yorkshire have joined the NHS's first "all-out" strike across England.

    Thousands of junior doctors walked out of both routine and emergency care at 08:00 in protest at the imposition of a new contract from the summer.

    It is the first time services such as A&E, maternity and intensive care have been hit in the long-running dispute.

  15. Travel update: Heavy traffic coming into Leedspublished at 08:08 British Summer Time 26 April 2016

    We're seeing heavy traffic in the city of Leeds this morning. Here is a run down of the main problems.

    Traffic is very slow on the A6110 Ring Road Low Wortley , eastbound, between the A58 Whitehall Road junction and Beeston.

    On the A58(M) Inner Ring Road, westbound, at the A65 West Street traffic is much heavier than normal.

    There is slow traffic on the M621 in both directions at J4, Hunslet Distributor.
