    A man who threatened staff with a kitchen knife at Junction 1 Retail Park in Beeston last Wednesday, external is been sought by police.

    It happened just before 10:00, the man (pictured) went up to the, till demanded cash and left through the main entrance.

  2. Ban for HMP Wealstun Fifty Shades of Grey nursepublished at 12:03 British Summer Time 29 July 2016

    A nurse who sent money and a copy of Fifty Shades of Grey to an inmate she was having a relationship with has been banned from nursing for 12 months.

    Kimberly Hinde, 40, began a relationship with the prisoner while working at HMP Wealstun, near Wetherby, and after she was suspended.

    Guards found a copy of the erotic novel and letters to Hinde in the man's cell.

    Hinde, who admitted misconduct, was given the year-long ban by the Nursing and Midwifery Council.

  3. Bradford shortlisted to host the Great Exhibition of the Northpublished at 11:39 British Summer Time 29 July 2016

    Bradford has been shortlisted to host the Great Exhibition of the North in 2018. 

    It's up against Blackpool, Newcastle-Gateshead and Sheffield to hold the exhibition, which showcases the creative, cultural and design sectors across the whole of the North.

  6. Three test positive for Zika virus in Calderdalepublished at 10:37 British Summer Time 29 July 2016

    Three people have tested positive for the Zika virus in Calderdale. 

    The Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Trust has confirmed that the patients were carrying the infection after returning from travelling.

    So far 50 people in the UK have been infected with Zika, which is spread by mosquitoes found in the Americas, except for Canada and Chile where it is too cold for them to survive.

    The World Health Organization has declared the Zika virus a global public health emergency. The infection is suspected of leading to thousands of babies being born with underdeveloped brains, known as microcephaly.

    Cases of this condition have been centred in north-east Brazil, but the outbreak has affected more than 20 countries in South America.

    Batley's famous Frontier Club is to close its doors for the final time this weekend. During its heyday the former Batley Variety Club hosted big names, including Tom Jones, Morecambe and Wise and Dusty Springfield.

  8. Firm fined over worker who fell to his deathpublished at 10:00 British Summer Time 29 July 2016

    A Bradford company has been ordered to pay more than a £150,000 after a worker fell to his death through a roof light.

    Richard Perry died while trying to block out the sunlight to reduce the heat at Whiteghyll Plastics two years ago. The Health and Safety Executive prosecuted the firm over the incident. 

    It was found the company failed to adequately supervise Mr Perry and another employee.

    Wakefield Trinity wing Tom Johnstone has signed a new four and a half year deal. The 20 year old, who came through the club's academy, will stay with Trinity until at least 2020. He's played 21 games this season, scoring 16 tries.

    The number of new homes being registered in Yorkshire is up year-on-year. More than 2,000 plots were earmarked for building on in the last three months, that's 400 more than the same period last year.

    And for the first time since the early 2000s, the number of detached family-sized homes being registered is higher than the number of flats.

    A portrait of Elizabeth I has become public property after an appeal helped raise £10.3m to buy it.

    Among those who donated to the appeal were a seven-year-old Wakefield girl, who sold Elizabeth I cupcakes while dressed in a costume inspired by the painting and pupils at St Paul's Girl School in London, who held a bake sale to raise funds.

    The Armada portrait, thought to have been painted in 1590, was being sold by descendants of Sir Francis Drake.  

    The picture will go on show at the Queen's House in Greenwich, near the site of Elizabeth's birth, in October.
