    The 16-year-old was one of the youngest British athletes competing in Brazil and will soon be getting her GCSE results.

    She and her diving partner Tonia Couch did not finish in the top three in Brazil, extending Britain's run without a women's Olympic diving medal to 56 years, but Tokyo could be the city where the long wait ends.

    A former soap star is considering putting herself forward to try to be the Labour candidate to replace Jo Cox as the MP for Batley and Spen. 

    Jo was shot and stabbed to death in Birstall near Leeds in June.

    Tracy Brabin who's been in Coronation Street, EastEnders and Emmerdale, has confirmed reports in The Sun that she's considering standing for Labour. 

    The party says it's not yet started its selection process.

    A whistleblower has warned vulnerable pupils could be left exposed to abuse without improvements at a Bradford school

    Nicola Tordoff, the former child protection officer at Tong High School, resigned from her job in June, saying it was "a matter of luck" that there had been no serious incidents. 

    The school says her concerns have been "considered and dealt with".

  12. Wakefield MP leads call for ban on plastic microbeadspublished at 09:29 British Summer Time 24 August 2016

    A worldwide ban on plastic microbeads in cosmetics should be imposed as soon as possible, according to a committee of MPs led by Wakefield MP, Mary Creagh.

    The Environmental Audit Committee says the tiny balls of plastic used in shower gels and facial scrubs can even be found in Arctic sea-ice and on the ocean floor.

    The MPs say synthetic fibres from worn car tyres and fleece jackets may also be harming wildlife.

    The government says it will consider a ban on microbeads in cosmetics if the EU doesn’t legislate against them.

    West Yorkshire Police say that they're "becoming increasingly concerned" for a missing teenager from Leeds.

    Megan Schofield,13, from Swarcliffe in Leeds, was reported missing on Monday morning. She is described as white, 5ft tall, thin with shoulder length blonde hair, blue-green eyes, and as generally looking older than her age.
