    A man who was one half of what is believed to have been the longest-married couple in the UK, dies at the age of 110.

    Karam Chand, of Bradford, died on Friday after 90 years of marriage to his wife Kartari.

  3. Man accused of Jo Cox murder appears in courtpublished at 11:22 British Summer Time 4 October 2016

    Thomas Mair, the man accused of the murder of Jo Cox MP, has appeared at the Old Bailey this morning.

    He remained silent when asked to plead guilty or not guilty. The judge Mr Justice Wilkie directed that pleas of not guilty should be entered

    A 12-year-old boy is in critical condition after suffering serious electrical burns on a railway line near South Elmsall.

    British Transport Police were called to the scene just before 18:15 yesterday. Officers say that their enquiries are ongoing. 

  6. Anger over plans to close three Wakefield swimming poolspublished at 10:38 British Summer Time 4 October 2016

    Plans to close swimming pools in Pontefract, Castleford and Knottingley are being criticised by local residents.

    Wakefield Council's considering closing the three pools and replacing them all with one multi-million pound leisure centre at Pontefract Park. 

    The new venue would be more modern and cheaper to run, according to the council.

  8. Leeds 'tent city' to be dismantledpublished at 09:58 British Summer Time 4 October 2016

    A so-called "tent city" for the homeless set up in the centre of Leeds could be dismantled today.

    Leeds City Council has applied for a possession order to take back Park Square from the illegal campers.

    Scores of homeless people have been living in more than 70 tents in the camp since the end of last week. 

    The Leeds Homeless Partnership arranged the protest as it disputes the council's rough sleepers figures. 

    The council has applied to the courts to take back the land as it will be needed for the two-day Light Night festival which starts on Thursday.

    The man charged with the murder of West Yorkshire MP Jo Cox is due back in court later.

    The MP was shot and stabbed to death in her constituency in June. 

    Thomas Mair, 52 and from Birstall, is accused of killing her. 

    He's due to appear at the Old Bailey this morning.

  10. Britain's longest-married man dies aged 110published at 08:58 British Summer Time 4 October 2016

    Some sad news: One of the world's longest-married men - who came from Bradford - has died.

    Karam Chand, 110, married his wife Katari in India in 1925 - and they had eight children and 27 grandchildren. They moved to England 40 years later.

    Mr Chand has died just a few days short of his 111th birthday.

  11. Van driver 'very lucky' after tyre blow-out on M62published at 08:38 British Summer Time 4 October 2016

    These pictures of a crashed van show the result of a tyre blow-out on the M62.

    It happened between J30-31 at Normanton and luckily the driver is OK.

    After the blow-out, the van hit a lorry and, amazingly, the driver walked away after being stuck in a live lane.

    Police say the driver is "very lucky" to be alive.
