    But this made me giggle, check before you spend loads of money on billboard advertising, you might end up with this one in Leeds!

  5. Paralympian and alzheimer's champion honouredpublished at 16:59 British Summer Time 5 October 2016

    Hannah Cockroft, who won three golds at the Paralympics in Rio this year has been appointed Deputy Lieutenant of West Yorkshire at a ceremony last night.

    She was given the honour at a special presentation ceremony at Bowcliffe Hall in Bramham yesterday. Also honoured by Dr Ingrid Roscoe, the Lord Lieutenant of West Yorkshire, was Rothwell man Peter Smith.

    Peter has championed efforts to make Rothwell a dementia friendly community, as well as helping West Yorkshire Police - who nominated him -  become more dementia friendly. He was awarded the British Empire Medal.

  6. Boy dies after coming into contact with rail trackspublished at 16:34 British Summer Time 5 October 2016

    More on the boy who has died after he came into contact with a rail line at South Elmsall.

    British Transport Police say that the 12-year-old suffered serious electrical burns and passed away this afternoon.

    Officers say that it's not clear how the boy was on the tracks, but his death is not being treated as suspicious.

    Local residents tried to help the boy before paramedics attended the scene on Monday teatime.

    He was taken to hospital for treatment but despite best efforts, the boy sadly passed away this afternoon in the presence of his family. They are being supported by specially trained officers.

  10. OneSubsea: 600 jobs at risk at Leeds engineering firmpublished at 15:47 British Summer Time 5 October 2016

    Just a reminder of our top story this afternoon, up to 600 jobs are under threat at an oil and gas engineering firm in West Yorkshire.

    Staff at OneSubsea have been told it was considering stopping manufacturing at their Leeds factory in 2017.

    It blamed the "most severe downturn of the past 30 years" in the oil and gas industry, with "operators significantly reducing their investment".

    OneSubsea has 929 staff in Leeds. Some staff will remain at its site on Queen Street, Stourton, under the proposals.

    In a statement, it said a drop in orders meant many of its plants were "underutilized".

  11. Former Chief Constable to release new bookpublished at 15:30 British Summer Time 5 October 2016

    The former Chief Constable of West Yorkshire Police, Sir Norman Bettison, has revealed he's written a book revealing his side of the Hillsborough disaster.

    "Hillsborough Untold" is due to be published next month, at the time of the disaster he was a Chief Inspector with South Yorkshire Police - and was there as a spectator. 

    He was then part of a team that gathered evidence about what happened on the day. In 2012, he resigned as chief constable of West Yorkshire Police - saying an inquiry into his role at the time was "a distraction" to the force. 

    Last year, he denied being part of a "black propaganda unit" set up to blame Liverpool fans. His side of the story will be told in this new book.

    The mother of an 11-year-old boy who was found hanging in his home in Bradford has made an emotional appeal on Facebook for more information about his death.

    Asad Khan died shortly after he was found in an unresponsive state at his home in Tile Street last Wednesday night. There are concerns he had been bullied, but it's still unclear exactly what led to his death.

    She had posted anonymously on a page that has been set up to campaign against bullying, external.

    Community leaders and parents will gather tomorrow to discuss concerns about bullying across the city.

    The prime minister Theresa May has paid tribute to Leeds Olympians the Brownlee brothers during her speech to the Conservative Party Conference.

    She highlighted an incident last month when Alistair Brownlee helped brother Johnny over the line in a race in Mexico.

    "When one of us falters, our basic human instinct...is to help them over the line," the PM said.

    "There is more to life that individual self-interest."

  17. Wakefield Wildcats: David Fifitaprop handed two-game ban for dangerous tacklepublished at 12:38 British Summer Time 5 October 2016

    Wakefield prop David Fifita will serve a two-match ban for a dangerous tackle he made in last month's final Super League match at St Helens.

    The 27-year-old denied the offence which happened in the 32-12 defeat on 23 September, but was found guilty by an independent Rugby Football League disciplinary tribunal on Tuesday.

    Fifita, who was fined £300, can serve the suspension in pre-season matches.

    The Tongan is out of contract having joined from Cronulla Sharks last June.
