  1. Watch: Cheers! - A look around saved North Yorkshire boozer named Pub of the Year published at 09:42 Greenwich Mean Time 3 March 2017

    Earlier I mentioned the George and Dragon in Hudswell, North Yorkshire, being named pub of the year  by the Campaign for Real Ale, after it was saved by villagers.

    The pub closed in 2008 but reopened in 2010 after residents formed the Hudswell Community Pub Ltd group and raised £200,000 to buy the building and land.

    They're setting off this morning and it's a hefty 55 miles, external .

    The group is setting off from Oakwell to raise funds for the Campaign Against Living Miserably in memory of Ashley Salkeld.

    Ashley was a Barnsley fan who committed suicide aged 25.

  3. Stolen air guns 'could be dangerous in wrong hands' - Policepublished at 09:13 Greenwich Mean Time 3 March 2017

    Several gas-powered air guns which police say "could pose a danger to the public in the wrong hands" have been stolen during a burglary in Huddersfield.

    They were taken from Armitage Road, Milnsbridge between 10:50 and 13:10 on Wednesday.

    Police are particularly keen to trace a man described as white, in his 20s, of slim build and 5ft 5ins tall. He was wearing a baseball cap and a blue top and trousers which looked like overalls.

    The suspect is believed to have been knocking on doors in the area.

    A village in Barnsley is part of a radical new energy trial to see if batteries can store and use local solar power for longer.

    If it takes off it could lead to thousands more homes fitting solar panels.

    More now on the news an appeal is being launched to try to  keep a robot that does pioneering brain surgery in Sheffield .

    ROSA is the most advanced surgical robot of its kind, but £250,000 is needed to keep it at the Royal Hallamshire. 

    Leanne Hall suffers from seizures and has already had three operations to remove a tumour.

    She is due to undergo specialist surgery using the ROSA robotic surgery assistant in Sheffield in March.

    She says the new treatment had given her a "light at the end of the tunnel":

    Police are appealing for witnesses after a woman died in a collision involving a car and a lorry on the A19.

    It happened at about 09:20 yesterday near the Husthwaite junction and involved a grey Toyota Avensis car and a white Scania lorry. 

    A 66-year-old lorry driver from the Northallerton area was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

    Investigators are at a former school in Leeds, after a large fire broke out last night.

    The historic building in Wortley was derelict and nobody was hurt.

    Thousands of homes in Harrogate have been without water this morning following a major leak on Wetherby Road.

    Yorkshire Water say about 6,000 homes were affected after a main burst in the early hours of this morning at the Stray end of Wetherby Road, near the hospital. 

    They've apologised to customers and say they are working on repairs.

    They've offerered the following advice:

    A country pub saved from closure after villagers stepped in to buy it has been named national pub of the year.

    The Campaign for Real Ale (Camra) has given the award to the George & Dragon at Hudswell, near Richmond, North Yorkshire.

    The pub, the village's only community facility, closed in 2008.

    A charity which supports families of disabled children says it's campaigning to make things better for them.

    Contact a Family says it costs three times more to raise a disabled child as it does to bring up an able-bodied youngster. 

    It comes as a Knaresborough family say they're spending at least £300 extra a month on specialist kit for their disabled four-year-old son. 

    Oscar Day has cerebral palsy and can't walk, sit, feed himself or talk, his Mum, Caroline, says they constantly need equipment like a lycra suit to help support him:

    An appeal is being launched to try to keep a robot that does pioneering brain surgery in Sheffield.

    The leader of Leeds City Council says a vast amount of taxpayers' money is being wasted dealing with litter and fly-tipping. 

    Judith Blake's been talking as Keep Britain Tidy starts a national campaign to encourage half a million people to help clean-up their neighbourhoods. 

    George Maxwell lives in Bradford and says fly-tipping's so bad on his street he's found rats in his house:

    Latest figures show clearing up fly-tipped rubbish cost councils nearly £50m in the last year.
