  2. Body found in Woodhouse Mill areapublished at 17:43 Greenwich Mean Time 10 March 2017

    Officers searching the Woodhouse Mill area of Sheffield have found the body of an elderly man at around 13:00 GMT.

    Formal identification has not yet taken place but South Yorkshire Police say it is believed to be missing man Barry Jones, 77, from Aston.

    Mr Jones’ family have been informed.

    Officers say there are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding the death.

  3. 'Protest' over access to toilets in Bedale schoolpublished at 17:28 Greenwich Mean Time 10 March 2017

    The BBC understands more than a dozen schoolchildren were sent home from a North Yorkshire school today after the police were called to a protest that began in a toilet.

    The pupils were protesting at Bedale High School saying they're being denied permission to use the toilet outside of designated break times. 

    On behalf of the school, North Yorkshire County Council says that students who need the toilet during lessons, or need access for medical reasons, will always be given access on request. 

    However, a number of parents have told BBC Look North that isn't the case, and some girls have been punished for going to the toilet during class time.

  4. MP to raise issue of cost of sanitary towels for schoolgirlspublished at 17:19 Greenwich Mean Time 10 March 2017

    A West Yorkshire MP is pledging to raise the issue of girls skipping school in because they can't afford sanitary towels in Parliament.

    Colne Valley Conservative, Jason McCartney, wants to enlist other MPs to help start a campaign for free sanitary products for needy young girls.

    The issue is something we told you about yesterday, and is happening at a school in Leeds

    The school has now called in a charity which normally helps women in Africa to make sure teenage girls don't feel the need to skip lessons.

    Barnsley poet Ian McMillan has penned a poem asking people to help with a campaign to renovate the Civic in the town.

  6. Biker dies after collision with car in Otleypublished at 17:02 Greenwich Mean Time 10 March 2017

    A motorcyclist has died after he collided with a car in Otley yesterday evening.

    The accident happened on West Chevin Road at about 17:40 when the man's motorbike which was travelling towards Menston collided with a white BMW X5.

    Police are speaking to the driver of the BMW.

  7. Early kick-off announced for South Yorkshire derbypublished at 16:45 Greenwich Mean Time 10 March 2017

    This is pretty important if you're planning on heading to Oakwell for the game against Sheffield Wednesday on 1 April.

    It had been scheduled as a 15:00pm kick-off, but it's now been brought forward to 12:30pm.

  8. Rotherham police seize £270,000 worth of cannabis plantspublished at 16:30 Greenwich Mean Time 10 March 2017

    Yesterday we told you about the four people in Rotherham that were arrested after a cannabis plants were found at houses on Fitzwilliam Road.

    It turns out the police netted around £270,000 worth of plants, arresting four men in the process.

    Police recovered 322 plants in the growth stage and a quantity of cropped drug, worth a further £20,000.

    Four men, aged 27, 29, 34 and 37-years-old were arrested on suspicion of production of cannabis and immigration offences.

    Two of the men have been bailed as inquiries continue the other two people are being dealt with by the UK Border Agency.

  9. Doncaster action to highlight plight of rough sleeperspublished at 16:14 Greenwich Mean Time 10 March 2017

    A group of people in Doncaster will be braving the cold this evening and sleeping in a makeshift cardboard home.

    They're taking part in the YMCA's annual sleep easy event.

    The charity hopes tonight will raise awareness of rough sleeping and raise funds for their work with vulnerable young people.

    About 50 people opposing changes to an historic York tower have attended a public meeting in the city centre.

    English Heritage was granted permission to build a £2m visitor centre at the foot of the 13th Century Clifford's Tower last October. 

    Some have criticised the design saying it resembles a toilet block, and a judicial review will now look at the council's approval of the plans. 

    The rally was organised by independent councillor for Micklegate, Johnny Hayes.

    Dozens of cannabis plants have been seized by police today and a 49-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of production of the plants.

    Police say that about 71 plants were seized from the house on Snydale Road in Normanton.

    Officers said that they acted after a tip-off.

    Sir Michael Parkinson has backed a major £5m fundraising campaign to renovate The Civic, Barnsley to become a world-class destination for the arts by 2023.

    The Grade II listed building has been part of the town since 1877.

    A third of the historic building is unoccupied with its traditional front entrance and foyer on Eldon Street disconnected from the rest of the building.

  16. Listen: 'Still time to talk' MP says ahead of Northern rail strike published at 15:05 Greenwich Mean Time 10 March 2017

    The Transport Minister and Harrogate MP, Andrew Jones, says RMT union members are wrong to go ahead with a walk out on Monday , when only 40% of services are expected to run.   

    The union's called the strike over plans to introduce more trains where drivers, not guards, are responsible for opening and closing the doors. 

    Mr Jones says Northern Rail's plans aren't finalised yet, and the two sides should "sit down and talk":

    Take a look at these royal treasures from India that are going on display in Bradford:

    Called 'Splendours of the Subcontinent,' the objects on show at Cartwright Hall were given to the British royal family by Maharajas and other rulers at the end of the 19th Century. 

    Bradford is the only city in the north chosen to host the exhibition, which features dozens of priceless gifts

  18. Yorkshire dominates 'Best Places to Live' chartpublished at 14:36 Greenwich Mean Time 10 March 2017

    The majority of the towns named "Best Place to Live" in Britain are in Yorkshire.

    Eight towns were given the accolade that considers factors such as jobs, exam results, broadband speed and community spirit.

    In North Yorkshire, Helmsley, Malton, Pateley Bridge, Richmond, Saltburn all made the list, with Hull, Horsforth in Leeds and Fulwood in Sheffield also topping the charts.

    The Sunday Times list also celebrates Harrogate, Skipton and York for appearing in almost every list over the past five years.

  19. Northern train strike: What you need to knowpublished at 14:25 Greenwich Mean Time 10 March 2017

    Don't forget that on Monday we're expecting industrial action on Northern trains, as the RMT union is disputing plans to bring in more driver-only-operated trains. 

    If you usually travel on a one of the services the advice is to avoid unnecessary journeys and to plan ahead.

    According to the WYMetro website, external , although not part of the strike, other operators like TransPennine Express, CrossCountry and Grand Central Virgin Trains may also be busier than normal.

  20. Listen: 'I would not underestimate this crisis' - Bishop of Sheffield row published at 14:07 Greenwich Mean Time 10 March 2017

    Reverend Peter Ould, a priest based in Canterbury, says he wouldn't underestimate what kind of a crisis this is for the Church of England.

    The Diocese of Sheffield needs a new Bishop after the Right Reverend Philip North, who was due to take up the role in June, withdrew his nomination.

    This all follows protests over his views on the ordination of women clergy.
