  1. Listen: Too far gone - Is time running out to save Bradford Odeon? published at 10:25 Greenwich Mean Time 10 March 2017

    Andrew Barton
    BBC Local Live, Yorkshire

Bradford's landmark Odeon building could soon reach a state where it can no longer be brought back into use, campaigners and councillors in the city are warning.

Developers were hoping to have started work to turn the former theatre and cinema into a 4,000-seat music venue, but they're still trying to secure funding and operators to do the work.

The 1930s venue has played host to many famous acts including The Beatles, but has been derelict since closing in 2000.

In February 2016, the Heritage Lottery Fund  turned down an application  for a £5m grant.

But Lee Craven, the head of Bradford Live, the organisation behind the plans to transform the site, says he's confident there's still enough interest to resurrect the Odeon:

  2. HS2 could cost more than planned in South Yorkshirepublished at 10:15

It's going to cost more to deliver the high-speed HS2 rail route in South Yorkshire if our local politicians get their way.

Despite not agreeing on a station location or a route, they've decided that if the current plans go ahead, the government must pay for some major developments which are currently unfunded.

A consultation on current plans for the route to follow the M18 with a spur into Sheffield ended last night, with Transport Secretary Chris Grayling due to make a final discussion later this year.

Sheffield Council says a major redevelopment of a Sheffield station, along with the electrification of the Midland mainline, would be necessary.

But the problem is that neither HS2 Ltd, the government, or Transport for the North have agreed to pay for it.

Doncaster and Rotherham councils say those works will cost the same as keeping the station at Meadowhall in the first place. Barnsley Council refused to comment.

  3. 'It has been a dignified argument' - Bishop of Sheffield nomination row published at 09:51 Greenwich Mean Time 10 March 2017

The acting Bishop of Sheffield, the Right Reverend Peter Burrows, says Bishop Philip North - who has turned down a promotion as the city's new Bishop - would have brought with him gifts and skills the diocese needs.

Mr North withdrew his nomination after fellow clergy in his new diocese objected to his stance against ordaining women priests.

Speaking on BBC Radio Sheffield this morning, Mr Burrows said Mr North "obviously doesn't want the diocese to continue to be dis-unified."

Mr Burrows, who is also the Bishop of Doncaster, added it had been a "dignified" argument.

  9. Bishop Philip North steps down over women priests rowpublished at 08:42 Greenwich Mean Time 10 March 2017

More on the news that an Anglican bishop has turned down a promotion to Bishop of Sheffield after fellow clergy in his new diocese objected to his stance against ordaining women priests.

    Philip North

The Right Reverend Philip North said the level of opposition meant accepting the offer would be counter-productive.

    Who is he?

Mr North is the current Bishop of Burnley, a suffragan bishop, who was nominated for a promotion to become the Bishop of Sheffield.

In his role, he would lead the Sheffield diocese and ordain priests and deacons.

    Why has he withdrawn?

He says he withdrew for "personal reasons" but added the "attacks" against him were "extremely hard".

Mr North holds a traditionalist position and said he would not ordain women priests.

But other senior church figures, including women bishops, expressed support for his appointment.

    Quote Message

It is clear that the level of feeling is such that my arrival would be counter-productive in terms of the mission of the Church in South Yorkshire and that my leadership would not be acceptable to many."

  10. Listen: Big meeting about future of York historic landmarkpublished at 08:29 Greenwich Mean Time 10 March 2017

Plans to revamp one of North Yorkshire's most historic landmarks will be in the spotlight later as an outdoor public meeting is held near the site to discuss the proposals.

A new £2m visitor centre at Clifford's Tower was approved last year, but the planning decision is going to be looked at by a judge to see if it's lawful.

Objectors say locating the new visitor centre in the base of the tower's mound would destroy the view, and some claim the planned building resembles a "toilet block".

Event organiser Councillor Johnny Hayes says today's meeting is about discussing options for Clifford's Tower and he's hoping for a big turnout:
