  2. Yorkshire MP to apologise to Commons for 'minor breaches'published at 10:11 Greenwich Mean Time 24 March 2017

    A Yorkshire MP's been told to apologise to the House of Commons for failing to declare his interest in a telecommunications company, while taking part in parliamentary inquiries relating to the industry. 

    The Commons Committee on Standards ruled Selby and Ainsty MP, Nigel Adams, committed several "minor" breaches at "the less serious end of the spectrum" of the MPs' code of conduct.

    It concerns Mr Adams' removal of his directorship of NGC Networks Limited and NGC Network Services from the register of MPs' interests and failures to declare his and his wife's interest in the companies. 

    Mr Adams told the Standards Committee he disagreed with the commissioner's findings, as he'd followed advice on removing his name from the register and made clear his interest during the inquiry into connectivity.

    A group which helps disabled people in Sheffield to go cycling has won some extra funding.

    Sheffield Cycling 4 All has been given £46,000 from HealthRich which enables them to loan out specially adapted bikes.

    The extra cash has allowed the group to expand its offering to a weekly service at Sheffield's Hillsborough Park.

  4. Police seek man 'pushed into car' in Leedspublished at 09:50 Greenwich Mean Time 24 March 2017

    Police say they've received reports of a man appearing to be "pushed into a car by four men" in the Beeston area of Leeds at about 00:30 this morning.

    Detective Inspector David Roberts said: "whatever happened between these males caused enough concern for someone to contact the police."

    Officers now want the man seen getting into the car to come forward and reassure them he's safe and well. 

    They also want anyone who may have seen a small black car in the area at that time or anyone who knows the identity of those involved to contact them.

    Muslims living in York are being warned to be extra vigilant following Wednesday's terror attack in London. 

    Police have been raiding properties across the UK since the attack and three women and five men have been arrested. 

    York Mosque says it is working closely with North Yorkshire Police to try to ensure everyone is safe.

    The health benefits of fruit have taken a different twist in Doncaster.

    Melons are being used to allow staff at Doncaster Royal Infirmary simulate wounds on human skin.

    It's part of a technique called Negative Pressure Wound Therapy.

    The trust says it works by creating a vacuum through a sealed dressing placed over the sore.

    This then draws out any fluid from the injury and increases blood flow to the area to help drain and clean the wound.

    Sheffield has been named as Yorkshire's top property hotspot.

    Prices rose by 5.6% over the last year bringing the average property value to £130,800.

    That's the 10th biggest increase in the country, equalling London and Nottingham.

    Leeds wasn't far behind with a 5% yearly rise making the average house price in the city £154,800.

    No other Yorkshire cities made the list, which was compiled by property firm Hometrack, external .

    Rotherham MP Sarah Champion says women who are pregnant with their third child haven't been told about changes to benefits. 

    From 6 April, changes to Universal Credit will mean families can only claim tax credits for their first two children.

    The Shadow Women and Equalities Minister wants the government to write to expectant mums directly.

    The government says information is available to HM Revenue and Customs staff and online, external .

    Parents who already have three children will not be affected by the changes.

    Kay got what she thought was a VIP invite to a big comic relief event at the Barbican in York being enjoyed by more than 1,000 schoolchildren.

    But as you'll see, It turned out it wasn't exactly a VIP invite - they wanted Kay there to cover her in gunge......eugghhh!

  12. Bradford policeman to be sentenced for selling drugspublished at 08:22 Greenwich Mean Time 24 March 2017

    A Bradford police inspector who stole drugs and then sold them to criminals is due to be sentenced today. 

    Keith Boots, along with two other men, is expected to learn his fate at Leeds Crown Court after a sequence of events which began with detectives finding £700,000 worth of narcotics in his home.

    Cocaine, crack, heroin, ecstasy and cannabis were all found at Boot's home on Norman Lane,Eccleshill, which prosecutors described as resembling "a warehouse of controlled drugs".

    He was convicted on drug charges while his son was found guilty of drug and gun offences. 

    A third man will also be sentenced later for perverting the course of justice. 

    Boots has already been sacked by the West Yorkshire force, where he was a police officer for more than 20 years.

    Britain's leading astronaut, Tim Peake, has congratulated a Sheffield A-level student.

    It's after 17 year old Miles Soloman discovered an error in data being sent back from the International Space Station.

  14. Fund raises £20,000 for Yorkshire farmer cleared of GBHpublished at 08:01 Greenwich Mean Time 24 March 2017

    An online appeal set up to help pay the £30,000 legal fees owed by a farmer from near York, has now raised more than £20,000.

    Earlier this month 83-year-old Kenneth Hugill (pictured) was found  not guilty after shooting a man on his farm  at Wilberfoss. 

    He thought he was about to be run over and have his diesel stolen. 

    A high profile lawyer known as Mr Loophole,  set up the crowdfunding page  and called for the rules to be changed for people left with huge legal costs after being found not guilty.

  19. Ice hockey player to be sentenced for child sex offencespublished at 07:11 Greenwich Mean Time 24 March 2017

    A professional ice hockey player from Sheffield is facing jail for a string of sex offences against young girls - he's due to be sentenced today. 

    Tom Squires, who used to play for the Steelers, the Hull Stingrays and Great Britain, pleaded guilty to four counts of inciting sexual activity with a child, and one count of sexual activity with a child.

    The offences against five victims took place in the Sheffield area between 2011 and 2016.

    The 26-year-old of Steven Crescent in Chapeltown, has been told by the judge he should expect a "lengthy custodial sentence" .

    A new law named after York woman Claudia Lawrence goes before MPs later.

    It's the third reading of a bill that would allow families of missing people to take control of their loved ones finances. 

    Claudia disappeared eight years ago.
