  2. Have you seen this man?: Police hunt for recalled prisonerpublished at 10:51 British Summer Time 13 April 2017

    Police are appealing for the public's help to find Stephen Hill who has been recalled to prison.

    Hill, 30, has links to York and Selby and is believed to currently be in one of these areas.

    He was released from prison under licence, after being sentenced to five years for false imprisonment and theft, but police say his licence has been recalled after he was suspected of committing further offences.

    Anyone who has information about his whereabouts are being asked to contact North Yorkshire Police.

    A Sheffield junior football team has gone from losing all their games to narrowly missing out on cup glory.

    The Aden Steelers team was set up last summer to encourage children from non-white backgrounds to get involved in football.

    A new exhibition of the works of world famous Castleford-born sculptor Henry Moore has been put together following a £7m revamp of his former home.

    Becoming Henry Moore runs until 22 October at the Studio & Gardens in Hertfordshire.

    The exhibition focuses on works from his formative years, from 1914 to 1930.

    It also includes exhibits from artists who influenced the sculptor.

    North Yorkshire Police is the first force in England to buy a fleet of micro speed camera vans.

    Their aim is to catch people speeding on rural roads which wouldn't usually be targeted.

    Footage of children taking selfies on railway lines in West Yorkshire has been released as a warning to other youngsters.

    The footage includes pictures from Halifax station showing two teenagers jumping from the platform edge and onto the tracks to take a photo.

    Hosting the Snooker World Championships boosts the Sheffield economy by £2.6 million, a new study has found.

    That figure's increased from a £2.3m benefit in 2002, according to researchers at Sheffield Hallam University, external.

    This year's tournament begins at the Crucible tomorrow.

    Since the competition came to Sheffield 40 years ago, the benefit to the city has been £100m in today's prices, the new study shows.

    However, it also reveals that the economic impact is concentrated on those firms located near the Crucible.

    Millions of fans of furry creatures have taken to the web to admire the antics of Fidget the weasel in North Yorkshire.

    Fidget was found abandoned in York, but adopted by wildlife artist Robert Fuller in Thixendale. 

    The film posted on BBC Radio York's Facebook page, external has officially gone viral, with almost fifteen million views and thousands of comments from all over the world.

    1. Weasels are members of the Mustela family, which includes polecats, stoats, ferrets and minks
    2. They're Britain's smallest carnivore and vary in length from 173 to 217 mm (6.8 to 8.5 in)
    3. They have slender bodies and some have fur which changes colour to blend in with their surroundings
    4. They can be found all across the world, but shun Antarctica and Australia
    5. Weasels eat small mammals such as mice and voles and eat 40% of their body weight each day

  12. Virgin rail strike set for start of May Bank Holiday weekendpublished at 08:38 British Summer Time 13 April 2017

    More on the news that workers on Virgin Trains East Coast are to stage a 48-hour strike at the end of this month.

    The strike's due to take place on Friday 28 and Saturday 29 April which are the first two days of the Tour de Yorkshire cycle race and also the start of the May Bank Holiday.

    The strike, by members of the RMT union, is in a long-running dispute which has affected several rail companies over the role of guards.

    Workers on Virgin Trains East Coast are to stage a 48-hour strike at the end of this month in a row over the role of guards and jobs. 

    Members of the RMT union are due to walk out on 28 and 29 April after strikes at three other train operators last Saturday in a row over staffing.

    The RMT said it has been seeking an "explicit clarification" from Virgin on the retention of the role of the guard.

    The union wants a specific assurance that a new position of train manager will retain the safety-critical roles and training currently held by train guards. 

    Virgin Trains East Coast runs rail services from Yorkshire to London and Scotland.

    Nurses in West Yorkshire's hospitals are to be asked if they want to strike after getting a 1% pay rise.

    The Royal College of Nursing is holding a national online poll to see how its members feel about it, saying morale is low and the nursing workforce is getting smaller.

    The number of people risking their lives on rail lines in Sheffield has hit a five-year high, new figures reveal.

    Last year there were almost 200 reported incidents of people trespassing on railway lines in and around the city, according to Network Rail.

    Nationally the trespass figure is 8,000, an 11% increase on the previous year, with half of those killed on the railways being under the age of 25.

    Poultry farmers in Yorkshire will no longer need to keep their flocks indoors from today following an outbreak of bird flu.

    A ban in England on letting birds outside has been lifted, meaning free range egg producers who had to keep birds inside can remove notice stickers from boxes.

    Normally-free range eggs have had to carry labels making it clear birds have been kept inside for their welfare.  

    Chicken, turkey and duck owners were first told to keep their birds inside - or take steps to separate them from wild birds - in December.

    The number of speed camera vans on North Yorkshire's roads is to be doubled, the county's police force has announced. 

    North Yorkshire Police has invested in a new fleet of six smaller micro-camera vans which will be able to go into villages and more built-up areas.

    They'll be added to the six transit-sized vans already in the force's mobile speedcam fleet.
