One vet's practice in the area says it's helped "several" dogs which which were bitten at Newmillerdam Country Park.

Adder venom can cause lameness, vomiting, and changes to the heartbeat, blood pressure and breathing rate.

This is the time of year when adders come out of hibernation and, it seems, they can be a bit grumpy - so if they're disturbed by a dog they tend to lash out.

It's worth remembering that the adder, the UK's only poisonous snake, is protected. So if you see one in your garden it's best to leave it alone.

    Quote Message

They only tend to bite in self-defence, for instance when they are stepped on accidentally or disturbed by an inquisitive dog."

West Yorkshire Police says it's too early to link the drug to the recent deaths of people in the Humber region, Cleveland and West and South Yorkshire.
