    Police are urging people not to approach a woman who's absconded from a North Yorkshire prison while serving a five-year sentence for grievous bodily harm.

    Donna Willis, 36, escaped from HMP Askham Grange, near York, on Wednesday, police have revealed.

    Officers believe Willis may have travelled north, and say enquiries are largely focused around the Northumbria area. 

    She is described as white, 5ft 2ins tall, with a slim build and blonde and brown hair.

    Anyone with information about her whereabouts is urged to contact North Yorkshire Police.

    Under the Police Reform Act, officers can seize your vehicle and impound it if you're seen driving in an "unsociable" manner.

    On South Yorkshire Police's Facebook page, the force says it's unlikely the McLaren, Lamborghini or Ferrari pictured above will be crushed.

    However, officers say they want to highlight the fact that "unsociable driving" won't be tolerated and that drivers will be dealt with accordingly.

    Settling down with a good book is something many of us might take for granted, but not for someone like Dale.

    Due to his dyslexia, he struggled to read or write until he was almost 40-years-old, but his life was transformed while he was serving time as an inmate at Doncaster Prison.

    Leeds is to get a £173m cash boost for new and improved transport infrastructure, the government's confirmed.

    Leeds City Council had previously been worried that the money may not materialise after the general election was called earlier this week.

    But the council now says the money is coming and that the Department for Transport investment will mean new park and ride services, bus priority lanes and modern facilities.

    The leader of Leeds City Council, Judith Blake, says the money will make public transport "quicker and easier for everyone to be able to move around the city".

    A Bradford man has been jailed for a year after admitting terrorism offences relating to posts he made on social media.

    Atzaz Khan, 40, pleaded guilty to six counts of disseminating terrorist publications under the Terrorism Act at Leeds Crown Court on Thursday.

    Khan, of Otley Road, Bradford, used several accounts to post terrorism material online, police said.

    When they were shut down, he activated others and posted links to publications praising the Paris terrorist attacks.

    More now on a story we mentioned earlier about a car found in York containing, drugs, balaclavas and knives.

    North Yorkshire Police say they stopped the car in the Hull Road area of the city at about 02:50 this morning.  

    In the car, officers also found what is believed to be cannabis and heroin.

    A man and a woman, both in their 30s and from the York area, have been arrested and are currently in police custody.

    Members of York's artistic community are opening their doors this weekend as part of an annual festival.

    York Open Studios, external first started in 2009 and sees artists open up their studios - usually their own homes - and invite people in to see their work and have a look at the place it's created.

    Mourners have gathered this morning for the funeral of Raheem Wilks, who was shot and killed in Leeds in January.

    Hundreds have attended the service at St Aiden's Church, his coffin arrived in a horse drawn hearse. 

    Raheem Wilks, the 19-year-old brother of Leeds United's Mallik Wilks, was shot near Too Sharps on Gathorne Terrace, Harehills, on 26 January.

    Two men have been charged with his murder and will face a trial on 16 October.

    South Yorkshire Police are increasingly concerned for missing Barnsley woman Samantha Roebuck.

    The 32-year-old was last seen yesterday afternoon, when she left her home in the Worsbrough area of the town.

    She's described as being around 5ft 3in tall, of medium build and with short brown hair.

    She was last seen wearing blue jeans, a multi-coloured stranded cardigan and possibly carrying a white rucksack  

    Anyone with information is asked to contact the force on 101.

    Car manufacturer McLaren , externalhave received approval from Rotherham Council to build their technology centre at the Advanced Manufacturing Park near the M1.

    The 75,000 square foot development at Catcliffe will cost £50 million and will bring 200 new jobs to South Yorkshire.

    The site will responsible for the company's research and development of their future carbon fibre chassis and for the manufacturing of the chassis itself.

    The application was passed unanimously by the council's planning board and Cllr Alan Atkin urged the developers to "get it built".

  16. Gearing up for the Tour de West Tanfieldpublished at 10:53 British Summer Time 21 April 2017

    Villagers in West Tanfield are gearing up for a visit by some of the world's top cyclists next weekend as the Tour de Yorkshire passes through North Yorkshire.

    It's the second time the village has played host to an international cycling race, having been a major player in the Tour de France in 2014, when members of the royal family dropped in.  

    For the 2017 event, both the men’s and the women's race are due to come through on Saturday 29 April.

    There'll be a host of events taking place including a "village gathering" with market and food stalls, children's games and a big screen playing the day's races.  

    A hot air balloon will also be tethered over the village and a special land art beacon lit, as participants in the men's race cross the bridge on their way to the Harrogate finish.

    As if there wasn't enough fast spinning-wheeled action, local residents will also take part in the village's annual Soap Box Challenge race.

  17. Watch: New lifeline for River Aire rescuers in Leedspublished at 10:41 British Summer Time 21 April 2017

    More now on the new scheme in Leeds to reduce the number of people who have to be rescued from the River Aire in the city centre.

    Fire crews are on the banks of the river today, making people aware of a new safety system and highlighting the dangers of being drunk near water. 

    Since 2012, there've been 80 rescues from the water in Leeds city centre. 

    Now, 14 "throwline" boxes have been installed to help people who've got into difficulty:

    Tomorrow is Record Store Day, but in Huddersfield they're celebrating today, with BBC 6 Music DJ Lauren Laverne broadcasting from the shop until 13:00 this afternoon.

    Three people have been arrested after an investigation into jury tampering during a "cash for crash" trial.

    Four men were jailed for offences including manslaughter and conspiracy to commit fraud after the death of 88-year-old Betty Laird (pictured) in Leeds in 2014.

    A car she was travelling in was hit on Old Lane, Beeston, and she later died in hospital.

    Two men, aged 27 and 28, and a 15-year-old girl were arrested on Thursday at two addresses in Beeston and Harehills.

    The three, who are being held on suspicion of conspiracy to intimidate jurors and perverting the course of justice, remain in police custody.
