  1. Third arrest in Leeds 'cash-for-crash' manslaughter jury tampering casepublished at 11:36 British Summer Time 24 April 2017

    A third person has been arrested in connection with an allegation of jury tampering during a case in Leeds.

    Jamie Lawson, 28, of Bayswater Grove in Harehills, was charged with conspiracy to pervert the course of justice in relation to a "cash-for-crash" trial in 2014.

    Four men were jailed for offences including the manslaughter of an 88-year-old woman. 

    Mr Lawson is due to appear at Leeds Magistrates' Court later.

    Betty Laird died in hospital after the car she was travelling in was hit by a VW Passat on Old Lane in Beeston near Leeds in September 2014, in a staged "crash-for-cash" collision.  

  2. Rail carriage restaurant on track for Visit England Awards for Excellencepublished at 11:23 British Summer Time 24 April 2017

    A tea room in York, a B&B in Pateley Bridge and hotels in Grassington and Harome find out today if they're the best in the country. 

    They're among six North Yorkshire tourist businesses that are finalists in the Visit England Awards for Excellence. 

    The countess of York, (pictured) a restaurant in a rail carriage, is included in the Afternoon Tea of the Year category.

    Built in 1810, historic Grassfield Hall, a Grade-II listed building in Pateley Bridge, is hoping to win B&B of the Year.

    Two others in the running are Grassington House for Boutique/Guest Accommodation of the Year and Harome's Pheasant Hotel, for Hotel of the Year.

    Competition this year has been described as "particularly fierce" - the awards ceremony is being held at the Hilton Waldorf in London.

  3. Man slashed across face during attempted robberypublished at 11:11 British Summer Time 24 April 2017

    Do you recognise these men? Police want to speak to them after a failed robbery where a man was slashed across the face with a knife in Bradford.

    It happened on 12 April on Intake Road when a 35-year-old man was smoking by his car and two men came over to him to ask for a lighter. 

    One of them then pulled out a knife and demanded cash from him. The victim ran off but was caught by the suspects who then attacked him.

    His injuries, which included slash wounds on his face needed surgery.

  4. Falklands medal stolen in Harrogatepublished at 10:56 British Summer Time 24 April 2017

    Police are appealing for witnesses after a military medal was been stolen in a burglary in Harrogate. 

    It took place in Valley Road, Darley, some time between 13:00 and 22:000 on April 11.

    Electrical items, jewellery and medication were stolen in the theft, as was a Falklands War military medal.

    The medal, on a blue and green ribbon, has a silver crown with then Queen's head on the front and a Falklands crest on the back. It's engraved with the name 'Alan Mould'.

    Anyone with information is asked to contact North Yorkshire Police.

    Meet Lucky the lamb, who's now back home with mum after a rather eventful morning.

    The lamb - who's three-weeks old - was stolen from a field at Graves Park Animal Farm by three men at around 07:00.

    But following a Facebook appeal, Lucky was found off Blackstock Road in Gleadless two hours later.

    Staff say the lamb's been given a clean bill of health and is now back with mum.

  6. Eighty-year-old man goes missing on countryside walkpublished at 10:33 British Summer Time 24 April 2017

    A man from Yeadon near Leeds has gone missing after going for a walk in the countryside at the weekend.

    Peter Silson, 80, left for his walk at about 10:00 on Saturday and hasn't been seen since. 

    Officers say that he's fit for his age and is a regular walker.

    He was wearing a dark waterproof jacket, dark blue short trousers and a flat cap.

  7. Leeds United film premieres in city tonightpublished at 10:21 British Summer Time 24 April 2017

    A documentary about Leeds United gets its premiere tonight at the Leeds International Film Festival.

    Do You Want To Win? looks back at the club's glory days in the late 80s and early 90s. 

    Among those on the red carpet at the Everyman Cinema in Leeds will be the former Leeds United midfielder Vinnie Jones. 

  8. Watch: Getting into gear - Largest piece of land art ever seen in Barnsleypublished at 09:59 British Summer Time 24 April 2017

    When cyclists ride through Barnsley on day three of the Tour de Yorkshire, you can be sure the overhead television cameras, showing the county in all its glory, will have no problem picking out this a giant piece of land art.

    'In Gear' was created by the Landmark Collective with the help of local volunteers and farmers. 

    It was commissioned by Barnsley Council to celebrate the third Tour de Yorkshire Cycle Race and can be seen on Thurgoland Bank near Penistone.

    At approximately 150m in length, Barnsley Council has described it as the "largest piece of land art ever seen in Barnsley."

    From today, one of York's busiest streets is closed to traffic for a fortnight. 

    Gillygate is being dug up to allow access to a water pipe that was laid down over a century ago. 

    It's back to school day today for many pupils in Yorkshire - perhaps whoever was responsible for this sign at Yorkshire Water might need a lesson to brush up their spelling skills:

  10. Bridging the gap: Tour de Yorkshire's Tadcaster triumphpublished at 09:23 British Summer Time 24 April 2017

    It's just days now until the start of this year's Tour de Yorkshire. 

    Thousands of people are expected to descend on Yorkshire to watch the teams battle it out up the gruelling climbs and the break-neck sprints.

    The start of day two is a special day for the North Yorkshire town of Tadcaster, when racers ride over the newly reopened Tadcaster Bridge. 

    The town was cut in two when the listed 18th Century bridge over the River Wharfe partially collapsed as a result of flooding in 2015.

    As you can see, the town is really getting behind the event - bunting is already being strewn copiously and the streets are awash with blue and yellow.

    Diversions are in place until 19:00 each day.

    Yorkshire Water's apologised for any inconvenience caused.

    Four trains from different eras have travelled side by side in a special event celebrating the past, present and future of Britain's railways.

    The world-famous locomotive Flying Scotsman was joined by an HST and InterCity 225 from Virgin Trains' fleet, and one of its new Azuma trains.

    They lined up on the East Coast Main Line at Tollerton, North Yorkshire, at 06:00 on Sunday before travelling to York.

    Hundreds of people got out of bed early and lined the route to witness the unique event.

  20. Legal challenge to demolition of Scarborough Futurist Theatrepublished at 07:17 British Summer Time 24 April 2017

    An attempt is being made to fund a legal challenge to stop Scarborough's former Futurist Theatre from being bulldozed. 

    It comes as a conference about the importance of sea-side resorts is held in the town today.

    Plans to demolish the 1920s theatre have been approved.

    Scarborough Borough councillors voted 22 to 21 in favour of spending £4m to knock it down earlier this year.

    A new attraction is planned for the site, but campaigners are trying to raise £10,000 to pay for a judicial review. 

    Acts to have appeared at the 2,000-seat venue over the years include The Beatles, Shirley Bassey and Ken Dodd.
