  7. Motorcyclist dies in head-on crashpublished at 17:51 British Summer Time 25 April 2017

    A motorcyclist has died after a head-on crash in Burnley.

    Sam Gelder, 28, from Todmorden, attempted to overtake a Ford Fiesta on The Long Causeway at Cliviger about 04:30 on Sunday.

    He was hit by an oncoming Toyota Land Cruiser on the opposite side of the road, before he landed in the path of the Fiesta.

    Mr Gelder was taken by air ambulance to Royal Preston Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

    Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to contact police.

    IBF heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua surprised his former coach, Sean Murphy, with a car to say thank you for introducing him to boxing.

    Joshua now trains at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield.

    He's preparing to take on Wladimir Klitschko in an attempt to add the vacant WBA Super and IBO heavyweight belts to his IBF title at Wembley on Saturday.

    Fire crews are attending a fire in the centre of Leeds this afternoon.

    West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue say they were called just after 16:30 this afternoon to a fire just behind the new Victoria Gate shopping centre.

    They told us that an empty shop on the ground floor was alight. People in the area say traffic heading up Eastgate was disrupted.

    Police say they have released a man who they arrested earlier on suspicion of the murder of Lindsay Rimer.

    Police said this morning that they had arrested a 68-year-old man in Bradford.

    Lindsay Rimer, 13, was last seen at a shop in Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire, on 7 November, 1994.

    Her body was found in the Rochdale Canal a mile from the town centre in April 1995.

    A  63-year-old man who was arrested in November 2016 on the suspicion of Lindsay's murder remains on police bail.  

  15. Watch: Dashcam footage leads to prosecution of dangerous driverpublished at 16:46 British Summer Time 25 April 2017

    A 25-year-old man has become the first driver to be prosecuted after another motorist submitted footage of them overtaking dangerously.

    It's all part of an operation being run by North Yorkshire Police where drivers are being encouraged to shop other motorists.

    Marc Hyland from Bell Farm Avenue was given a 12 week suspended sentence, a 20-month driving ban, 250 hours unpaid work and had to pay costs of £157 for this move on the A19 at Thormanby.

  16. Police try to find woman after 'concerns for her welfare'published at 16:40 British Summer Time 25 April 2017

    A CCTV image of a woman in Leeds has been released after police say they have "concerns for her welfare".

    West Yorkshire Police say the woman went to Burley Park train station in Leeds yesterday afternoon and spoke to a member of staff causing him to become concerned and contact police.

    She left the station and went on to Chapel Lane.

  17. Scarborough man arrested after suspected hate crimepublished at 16:29 British Summer Time 25 April 2017

    A man has been arrested after allegedly standing outside a house in Scarborough and hurling racist abuse at the residents.

    It happened on Sunday night in the Queen’s Terrace area of the town.

    Police say that the man also tried to hit one of the occupants.

    A 53-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of racially aggravated common assault. He was later released.

  19. Four arrested after man abducted from car in Yorkpublished at 15:58 British Summer Time 25 April 2017

    A man in York was pulled from his car by three men who then forced him into another vehicle and then drove off.

    The incident happened yesterday at Butcher’s Terrace in Bishopthorpe Road, passers by called the police who are now appealing for more information.

    Officers say that a black Renault Clio pulled up followed by a silver car. Three men got out of the silver car and forced the driver of the Clio in to their vehicle and then drove off.

    Three people were arrested today over the incident and a fourth person was arrested on suspicion of drugs offences. All four men remain in police custody for questioning.

    South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue have been at Underbank reservoir, near Stocksbridge, honing their skills by taking taking part in rescue drills.

    It's part of an attempt to raise awarness of water safety called 'Drowning Prevention Week'.
