  4. On the right track - Some of Yorkshire's roads to get 'surface dressing'published at 14:42 British Summer Time 25 April 2017

If you're one of those people who are hugely proud of your car's paintwork, pick your route carefully around Yorkshire after May, as surface dressing will be happening on some roads.

    ChippingsImage source, k|e|n|g

Bradford Council say the cost, which is being funded by the Department for Transport, is going to be about £1.5m for their city alone.

But once all those nasty paint-chipping stones are gone, it means the roads should be good for another 10 years.

The wider programme covers Bradford, Calderdale, Leeds, Wakefield, York, Rotherham, Doncaster and Kirklees.

An onlooker described how the Hollywood star looked like he "switched into superhero mode" as he collared the man after the chase near his home in Richmond, south west London.

The 39 year old, who recently co-wrote and appeared in BBC drama Taboo, reportedly performed a citizen's arrest on the fleeing suspect - with Hardy's help two suspects were detained in connection with the theft.

Unsurprisingly, his crime fighting skills haven't gone unnoticed, as you can see by this cheeky offer from West Yorkshire Police:

More than £1.5m is to be spent to preserve and protect York’s medieval city walls, renowned as being  the most complete city walls still standing in England today.

Stretching over 3.4 kilometres, they are also the longest historic walls in the country, with five main gateways, known as 'bars', one Victorian gateway and 45 towers,

The council say it "already invests around £100,000 a year on routine monitoring and inspection, but more funding is urgently needed to ensure the walls can be preserved for years to come."

The renovation work will include improvements to Monk Bar (pictured above) and two new walkway gates at Micklegate Bar, pictured below.
