    The A1 will be closed in both directions due to roadworks during the night.  

    The work begins tonight and ends on the 4th of May.  It's at the A66/A6108/Middleton Tyas Lane junction (Scotch Corner). The closure is from 2000-0600.

  5. Steel firm creates 300 jobs in South Yorkshirepublished at 10:44 British Summer Time 2 May 2017

    Steel giant Liberty House is to create 300 jobs at its sites including Rotherham, Stocksbridge and Brinsworth in South Yorkshire.

    The company is to also make multimillion-pound investments to secure the future of the plants. 

    The announcement was made as Liberty formally completed a £100m deal to acquire the Speciality Steels division of Tata Steel UK. 

    The move will protect the roles of 1,700 existing staff at the three sites.

    Investigations are under way after a second fire badly damaged the iconic Magpie café in Whitby. 

    Crews were called to the harbour front restaurant on Sunday night after a fire broke out on the top floor. 

    Then yesterday afternoon the cafe's roof was again engulfed in flames. Paul Gildroy is the Head Chef at the café and says he's heartbroken.

  8. Harrogate endurance cyclist to be remembered at memorial in the townpublished at 10:08 British Summer Time 2 May 2017

    Cyclists are being invited to celebrate the life of a Harrogate endurance cyclist who died in an accident in March.

    Mike Hall died in a collision with a car while riding in the Indian Pacific Wheel Race in Australia.  

    Race organisers said his death was a "great loss to the global cycling community".  

    A memorial event will be held for the 35-year-old at the Pavillions of Harrogate today at 12.45 BST.

    Members of Hartshead AFC were greeted with this sight when they arrived at their pitch over the Bank Holiday

    The club play in the West Yorkshire Association Division One and had recently done up their pitch because they could be promoted next season, they're currently second in the league.

    The dugouts were funded by members of the club, who tweeted: "Hard work, time and own money to make our pitch acceptable for if we gained promotion, just for it to be ruined."

    If you doubted how many people turned out for the Tour de Yorkshire then take a look at BBC Yorkshire's behind the scenes video of what it takes to police such a mammoth event. 

    The police say it was a "magnificent weekend" and there were no arrests.

    Sheffield United will celebrate winning the League One title later today, external.

    There's an open top bus tour around the city and a civic reception at the town hall later.

    Tens of thousands of people are expected to attend, with the parade leaving Bramall Lane at about 18:00 and arriving at the Town Hall just before 19:00.

    Then just before 20:00 the players will gather on the Town Hall steps for photos and to be showered with confetti. 

    If you can't get there we'll be live from the streets of Sheffield later on to bring you all the atmosphere.

    The chairman and owner of York City Jason McGill says he takes the blame for any decisions which have led to the club being relegated.

    In a statement he admits the appointment of Jackie McNamara as manager didn't work and as a consequence has been a major cause for the current situation.

    Jason McGill goes on to say that Jackie, who was made CEO after he stood down as manager last October,  has "made some important changes behind the scenes and I trust him".

    He says following relegation they could have parted company with Gary Mills but he has made an offer to the manager to stay on.

    Lorraine Allaway's husband Bob was killed 19 months ago by a drink driver who was on the wrong side of the road just outside of Settle

    Since then she has campaigned to get tougher sentences for anyone caught drinking and driving.

    Now she's campaigning for the drink-drive limit to be lowered to nearly zero.  She's been telling me why.

     A 43 year old man has been arrested following another death which is thought to be linked to deadly batches of heroin being sold in Yorkshire. 

    A man has died after being found at a house in Fitzwilliam near Wakefield on Sunday.  

    Six people died in drug-related incidents across Yorkshire last month.
