It happened on Station Road in Fenay Bridge at lunchtime on Saturday 25 March.
A man entered the a house and stole a gold Summit watch and a gold pocket watch before the owner of the house caught him in the act.
Anyone with information is being asked to contact police.

The histories of Yorkshire people are being brought to life at the North Yorkshire County Record Office this month as part of the national Museums at Night festival.
Called Archives at Dusk, many different Yorkshire lives will be on show, including life in Alum works along the Yorkshire coast:
Conscripts, like Buffalo, a 25-year-old hawker accused of stealing three fleeces of wool and sentenced to one month's hard labour in 1871, are also pictured:
And you can also see heroes of the sea, like Scarborough coxswain John Owston:
The story of Samuel Butler, the founder of theatres throughout the north, will also be told and there'll be a recreation of the Scarborough Pageant of 1912.
Archives at Dusk will be on show at the County Record Office in Northallerton on Thursday 18 May.

Labour has held both its seats in the Edenthorpe ward.
This was a UKIP target ward.

That's all the wards now declared for North Yorkshire County Council.
One Selby Barlby seat has been gained by Karl Arthur for the Conservative Party, while Labour's Steph Duckett has retained his seat.
Meanwhile, Esrick, Mid Craven, and North Craven are all Conservative holds, with South Craven remaining Independent.

The number of people voting across all North Yorkshire districts in this year's local elections seems to be up compared to 2013.
Here are the figures from a some of the wards which have so far declared:
A woman from Barnsley who risked her life in order to help someone who was being attacked by a man with a pickaxe handle has been recognised for her bravery.
Nadine Boids, from Elsecar, was woken up by a fight outside her house in November last year. She ran outside where 29-year-old Neil Bailey was attacking a 25-year-old man with a large pickaxe handle.
She shouted at Bailey and pushed him away from the man - which police say diffused the situation and led to Bailey running off. The victim was left with a broken leg.
Bailey, of Gray Street, Elsecar, Barnsley, was sent to jail for three years at Sheffield Crown Court on Wednesday.

Following Thursday's local elections, the Conservative Party has retained control of North Yorkshire County Council and has increased its majority.
The party took 45 seats at the last election, and already stands at 50 seats today with eight results still to come in.
Five of the seven North Yorkshire counts are now complete.

The counts for the Hambleton, Ryedale and Richmonshire areas are now complete.
In Richmondshire there are three Conservative councillors and one independent councillor.
Ryedale now has five Conservatives councillors and one independent councillor
Hambleton has 10 conservative Councillors and one Liberal Democrat.
