    Another major bike race is set for Sheffield, just weeks after the area hosted the final stage of the Tour de Yorkshire.

    The National Circuit Championships are to be held in the city on t19 July, which will see some of the country's top professional cyclists go head- to-head.  

    The 1.4km course - which starts and finishes on Pinstone Street - will pass Sheffield Hallam University and the Crucible Theater.

    The Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn is in Leeds today setting out the party's vision for education in the run up to the general election.

    In a speech at Leeds City College he urged students to "use their democratic right" to vote and talked about an "upgraded economy".

    He talked about a promise to build on million homes, but said that underneath housing, jobs and the economy lay education, skills and training.

    He also thanked Leeds central candidate Hilary Benn and city council leader Judith blake.

    Police say they're becoming increasingly concerned about Trevor Wood, who went missing from Doncaster this morning.

    The 44-year-old, who's 5ft 6ins tall and of medium build, is thought to have left his home on Ellerker Avenue at about 05:00 in his Vauxhall Meriva.

    Anyone with information about his whereabouts is asked to get in touch with police.

    Everyone on board a single-decker bus which caught fire in Wakefield last night escaped unhurt, according to West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service.

    The funeral of a top tennis umpire from North Yorkshire is due to be held later.

    Malcolm Huntington was a sports journalist at the York Evening Press covering York City for many years. 

    He also found fame as the man at the centre of one of the famed Wimbledon rants by US tennis star John McEnroe. 

    Mr Huntington died at St Leonards Hospice last month at the age of 82 and his funeral is due to take place at St Paul's Church in Heslington this afternoon.

    A large blaze at an industrial estate in Kilnhurst, near Rotherham, is finally out, according to fire officers.

    More than 30 firefighters were needed to tackle the flames at Universal Recycling on Wharf Road on Monday morning after about 500 tonnes of material - including plastics and metal - caught fire.

    The cause of the blaze is believed to be accidental and people living nearby the site have now been allowed back to their homes.

    In a statement on the club's website, external, club chief executive Carl Hall says: "Despite results not always going our way, he has been a great professional and worked his socks off for us.

    The cause of a large blaze at an industrial estate near Rotherham on Monday is believed to have been accidental and caused by machinery, South Yorkshire Fire Service has confirmed.

    At its height, about 30 firefighters tackled the blaze at Universal Recycling on Wharf Road in Kilnhurst, after about 500 tonnes of plastic, metals and other materials went up in flames.

    Local transport services were disrupted and some people were evacuated from their homes as a result of the blaze, only being allowed back on Tuesday night.

    Sheffield artist Pete McKee is recovering in hospital after undergoing a full liver transplant.

    Mr McKee is the artist behind a mural at the £50m Fox Valley shopping centre in Sheffield and he also collaborated on a large bronze statue called Granddad Fox at the same site.

    His operation was carried out on Saturday evening in Leeds and a post from his family on Facebook last night says doctors are pleased with how the surgery went.

    They say: "Pete has been transferred off the intensive care unit and is now recovering on the ward.

    "We would like to thank you all for your kind wishes over the weekend. They will mean a lot to Pete when he is well enough to read them."

  15. Warning over West Yorkshire moorland wildfire riskpublished at 07:43

    The danger posed by wildfires on moorland around West Yorkshire is being highlighted after several recent fires, external which have been made worse by the dry weather.

    The South Pennines Fire Operations Group (FOG), which brings together representatives from fire services, water companies, local authorities and Natural England, says there've already been a number of fires above Todmorden and Littleborough this spring.

    Danny Jackson, FOG chairman, says: "Spring is a real danger period for moorland wildfires, which is why the partners working together through FOG, including firefighters and landowners, are asking members of the public to be extra vigilant when out in the countryside."

    Work to tidy up land surrounding Tadcaster Bridge should be completed over the next few weeks, it's being promised.

    Since the bridge reopened in February after it was partially destroyed by the Christmas 2015 floods, contractors have been putting finishing touches to the river bed and the banks of the River Wharfe. 

    Site cabins have also finally been removed from the car park on the east side of the bridge where builders working on the bridge had stored their equipment.

    People who had to move out of their homes after a big fire at a recycling plant near Rotherham earlier this week have been told they can return.

    Firefighters and the Police carried out a further assessment last night at the Universal Recycling site on Wharf Road in Kilnhurst. 

    A decision was taken that smoke levels had reduced and it was safe for all residents to return to their homes. 

    About 500 tonnes of plastic, metals and other materials caught light on Monday morning and, at its height, about 30 firefighters tackled the blaze.

    Firefighters remain at the scene this morning as damping down continues at the site.
