    A woman was sexually assaulted as she walked near the Dark Arches in Leeds at the weekend.

    The attack happened at about 00:05 on Saturday as a 31-year-old woman was walking close to the Shabab Express restaurant

    She was approached by a man who sexually assaulted her but she managed to get away and sought help from staff at a nearby hotel.

    The woman suffered bruising to her legs and shoulders.

    The offender was wearing a dark jacket with a light blue triangle design on the side and was about 6ft tall.

    York Minster says it's increased security measures at the cathedral following the Manchester terror attack.

    The news comes at the same time as North Yorkshire Police announced armed police will be seen on the county's streets.

    Staff at the cathedral say they are responding to the raising of the national threat assessment level by "increasing high visibility patrols" by Cathedral Constables and Introducing "with immediate effect, random bag searches" at visitor entrances.

    The measures will remain in place until further notice.

    A cathedral police force has been given back the power of arrest for the first time in nearly 80 years.

    York Minster Police has been given the same powers as regular police officers within the Minster's precinct.

    Eight constables and the cathedral's head of security were sworn in at a special ceremony on Tuesday.

    The force, established in the 13th Century, lost its powers in the 1930s when officers ceased to be attested.

    York Minster is one of only a handful of cathedrals to maintain its own police force.

    Those that do have a police force include Liverpool's Anglican Cathedral, Canterbury Cathedral, St Peter's Basilica in Rome and Washington's National Cathedral in Washington DC.

    The game is due to start at 14:00 amid extra security after the Manchester attack on Monday night.

    Seventeen people in Sheffield have been ordered to pay almost £9,000 combined, after wrongfully making use of blue badges issued to their disabled relatives.

    The cases at Sheffield Magistrates Court included badges issued for a 90-year-old pensioner and a five-year-old school pupil were used by motorists, including a university lecturer and retired doctor so they could park without paying.

    In 2015, there were 2.39m blue badge holders in England official figures show.

    Councils in England took legal action against 896 people for abuse of blue badges in the year to the end of March 2016, according to the Department for Transport (DfT).

    Almost all of the cases involved drivers using another person's blue badge.

    A woman from Tadcaster is planning to raise £10,000 to help families affected by the Manchester bombing.

    Gillian Hainsworth is a music teacher at Tadcaster Grammar School.

    Over the last couple of years she's raised thousands of pounds for flood victims in the town and now she's turning her attention to the Manchester Terrorist Attack.

    Gillan knows children who were at the concert at Manchester Arena.

    She told me nothing will bring back loved ones, but raising the funds seems "a logical thing to do":

  10. Four men held after 10-mile police pursuit around Scarboroughpublished at 12:16 British Summer Time 24 May 2017

    Police in Scarborough have arrested an 18-year-old man from Hull on suspicion of driving while on drugs, driving dangerously and failing to stop.

    It comes after a 10-mile police chase from Foreshore Road in the town to Ravenscar in the early hours of this morning, which ended with a car crashing in to a building.

    Three other men - also from the Hull area - were arrested on suspicion of the theft of a motor vehicle.

    All four remain in custody while inquiries continue.

    Police have released an efit image of a man they want to speak to after a bag full of money was stolen from the back of a car in Baildon near Bradford.

    The theft happened on 10 April at about 11:00 when a man a cash bag containing a significant amount snatched from him in Ashfield Drive.

    More now on the news that a Polish couple from York were among those who died in the Manchester Arena terror attack on Monday.

    Angelika and Marcin Klis were at the arena to collect their daughters - one of whom is Alex, 20, a student at York College.

    In a statement, York College Principal Dr Alison Birkinshaw says everyone there is "shocked and deeply saddened" to learn of the death of Alex's parents.

    "This is devastating news for Alex and her family, the whole college and the wider community," says Dr Birkinshaw.

    "We are in touch with Alex and will do whatever we can to support her and her family."

    A Polish couple from York died in the Manchester Arena terror attack on Monday, it's been confirmed.

    Angelika and Marcin Klis took the selfie pictured below in Manchester city centre, shortly before going to the concert to pick their daughters up:

    The picture was shared on Facebook by their daughter, Alex, 20, a student at York College, who appealed for information on their whereabouts.

    Alex wrote: "Anyone who is in any safe place or hospital in Manchester, if anyone comes across my parents please please let me know as they've been missing ever since the attack."

    The Polish Foreign Minister, Witold Waszczykowski, says: "The parents came after the concert to collect their daughters and unfortunately we have information that they are dead."

    Marcin worked at York Cars Taxi Service, a cab company in York.

    Armed police will be seen on North Yorkshire's streets as a result of the terror attack at Manchester Arena which killed 22 people, the county's Assistant Chief Constable has confirmed.

    Phil Cain says: "We have increased our uniformed patrols so you will see more officers at key locations. Some of these officers will be armed, but please don’t be alarmed, this is precautionary and not in relation to any specific information."

    Mr Cain also raised the possibility of soldiers making patrols.

    He said: "The raising of the terror threat to critical means we can now call upon the assistance of the military.

    "This does not mean that you will immediately see soldiers patrolling the streets of North Yorkshire. It is an option that we will keep under consideration and constantly review."

    Mr Cain is urging members of the public to be alert "but not alarmed" and to remain vigilant.

    Scarborough's new RNLI station is to become a theatre for a night.

    Artists and musicians are to perform In at the Deep End this evening, a play about a fictional RNLI station and its crew on the Yorkshire coast.

    They're from the Mikron theatre company, which is known for staging performances in unusual places.

    The play explores the difficulties of finding new recruits and the relationship between the lifeboat station and the local community.

    Sheffield Wednesday boss Carlos Carvalhal has signed a contract extension with the beaten Championship play-off semi-finalists.

    Carvalhal has guided the Owls to successive top six finishes in his two seasons with the club.

    They were beaten by Hull City in last year's final before losing on penalties to Huddersfield this year.

    The Owls have not disclosed the length of the contracts the Portuguese and his coaching staff have signed.

    A rail union has called off a planned strike on some train services in Yorkshire later next week, because of the terror attack in Manchester which killed 22 people.

    Rail, Maritime and Transport Union (RMT) members had planned a 24-hour walkout on Southern, Merseyrail and Northern (Arriva Rail North) on 30 May.

    The year-long dispute is over staffing and plans to introduce new driver-operated-only trains.

    The union's general secretary Mick Cash said: "Our thoughts and solidarity are with the people of Manchester."

    The company say services will now run as scheduled on this date.
