    A man who was left disabled as a result of negligence during his birth will receive almost £8m in NHS compensation.

    NHS lawyers accepted his premature delivery at Sheffield's Jessop Maternity Hospital in the 1990s was handled negligently.

    Now in his 20s, the man, who cannot be identified, uses a wheelchair and requires 24-hour care.

    He will also receive £290,000 a year for the rest of his life, which could see the total payout top £20m if he lives into his 70s as expected.

    Children in Halifax are being warned not to play in a disused mill after several fires have been lit in the building.

    Old Lane Mill in the Boothtown area of the town was built in 1825 but now stands empty.

    Police say they're getting an "increasing amount of calls" after young people have gone into the decaying building.

    Some of the trespassers climb up the building, light fires and even walk about on the roof, which is 100ft up in the air.

    Emergency services say the structure of the building is extremely poor, with floors and staircases being badly damaged, which poses a risk to them as well as the children.

    A concert by the Beach Boys went ahead in Scarborough last night in defiance of the raised terrorist threat across the UK following the Manchester Arena bombing.

    The band paid an emotional tribute to the bombing victims as armed police patrolled the town's streets.

    Band member Bruce Johnston told the crowd: "The violence in Manchester on Monday evening was heartbreaking. Our prayers tonight are with all the victims, the wounded and their loved ones."

    Beach Boy Mike Love added: "We stand with all those who cherish freedom. Please join us for a moment of silence honouring all affected by this horrific event."

    A man has died and three others are injured - one in a critical condition - after a car crash near Keighley, West Yorkshire.

    It happened just after 23:00 last night when the blue Fiat Punto in which the men were travelling left the road and hit a sign and a tree by the side of Laycock Lane.

    The driver was pronounced dead at the scene and two men in the car received serious injuries. Another man suffered minor injuries.

    Sheffield Arena has released important information for Take That fans ahead of the band's performance at the venue on Monday and Tuesday next week.

    There is a full list of information on the arena's website, external, including a heads-up that all customers will be searched before entering and the venue asks people to bring as few personal belongings as possible.

    The audience also won't be allowed the leave the concert and then return into the venue to access cars or to smoke.

    The doors will now open earlier at 18:00 to allow more time for people to get into the show, with the first act due on stage at 19:25.

    More tributes have been paid to 14-year-old Leeds schoolgirl Sorrell Leczkowski, who was killed in the Manchester Arena attack on Monday night.

    Elaine Silson, headteacher at Allerton High School in Leeds, where Sorrell was a pupil, says the teenager was "a delightful member of the school community".

    A campaign to re-open the Beverley to York railway has suffered a setback.

    The Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) has told campaigners it doesn't have the money to fund a feasibility study into re-opening the line.

    The rail minister had advised members of the Minsters Rail Campaign to approach the LEP for funding.

    The LEP says it will investigate whether any alternative sources of funding are available.

    More on the news that Garry Monk has resigned from his position as head coach of Leeds United, just two days after Italian businessman Andrea Radrizzani completed his takeover of the Championship club.

    The 38-year-old was appointed on a rolling one-year contract last summer and guided Leeds United to seventh place in 2016-17.

    Monk spent 10 years at Swansea as a player before taking over as Leeds manager from February 2014 to December 2015.

    He was the sixth full-time head coach appointed by Massimo Cellino during the Italian's reign from June 2014.

    A statement by the club says Monk's resignation had been "reluctantly accepted".

    The Queen has been visiting victims of Monday's suicide attack at Manchester Arena, including a 14-year-old girl from Harrogate.

    Evie Mills is recovering from her injuries at Royal Manchester Children's Hospital.

    More than 100 people were wounded in the terror attack, with 75 admitted to eight hospitals across the city.

    Evie told the Queen that she went to the concert as she'd been bought a ticket as a birthday present.

    Garry Monk, the man who took Leeds United the closest they've been for years to top-flight football has resigned as head coach.

    In a statement, Leeds United said: "We are shocked and disappointed by Garry's decision but his resignation has been reluctantly accepted by Chairman Andrea Radrizzani.

    They added "Whilst we are deeply saddened by Garry's decision, there is no individual bigger than our club and we will now begin a process to identify and appoint a new head coach."

    "We thank Garry for his contribution during his time at Leeds United, we are disappointed that we could not continue on this journey together."

    Security at Bradford's City Hall is to be stepped up in the wake of the Manchester attack on Monday and it will include bag checks including at weddings.

    Bradford Council has released a statement saying the public need to be aware of the measures to "ensure their safety and the safety of staff".

    They say that there needs to be only "one point of entry at City Hall" and other buildings that they operate around the district.

    They add that a "visitors will have their bags searched, including those attending weddings and registrations at Bradford City Hall."

  20. Police make 17 arrests in drugs crack down in Leedspublished at 12:47 British Summer Time 25 May 2017

    Police say 17 arrests have been made across Leeds after a crack down on the "organised supply" of heroin and cocaine in the city.

    West Yorkshire police say that over the last four days they have searched 43 addresses in Harehills, Chapeltown, Seacroft, Gipton, Meanwood, Kirkstall, Woodhouse, Little London, Rothwell and Morley.

    Armed officers were used in a number of cases to combat the criminal use of firearms linked to the illegal drugs trade.

    Thirteen people have been charged with drug offences relating to the supply of Class A drugs. Officers say the majority of those have already appeared at Leeds Magistrates Court.
