    A Sikh temple in Bradford is collecting clothes, toys and money, for those affected by a devastating fire that destroyed a tower block in London.

    At least 12 people are now known to have died in Grenfell Tower, although that number is expected to rise - firefighters are still tackling pockets of fire in the block.

    President of the Gurdwara, Ranbir Singh, says the community is in shock at the news:

    Meanwhile, Housing officials in Leeds say "robust" measures are in place to reassure people who live in blocks of flats in the city and all high rise blocks are checked on a daily basis.

    And Wakefield District Housing - which owns six tower blocks - says it works closely with the fire brigade to keep people safe.

  4. Huddersfield man charged with terror offencespublished at 06:42 British Summer Time 15 June 2017

    A Huddersfield man has been charged with three offences under the Terrorism Act.

    Westminster

    Mohammed Abbas Idris Awan, who's 24, was arrested during raids two weeks ago after raids in Sheffield and Huddersfield.

    The 24-year-old from Huddersfield was arrested on 1 June following an investigation by the North East Counter Terrorism Unit.

    He is charged with engaging in the preparation of an act of terrorism and possessing a record of a kind likely to be useful to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism.

    He is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court today.
