    Leeds United 's parent company has revealed it now owns the Elland Road stadium.

    The club said it has completed the purchase of the ground from the landlord Teak Commercial Limited.

    In a statement Leeds United said the move achieved what owner Andrea Radrizzani had set out as a top priority in allowing the Championship club to buy back its stadium following the completion of the takeover from Massimo Cellino

    Leeds sold Elland Road on a sale and lease back deal after a takeover led by Sebastian Sainsbury collapsed in November 2004.

    A Doncaster conman is being sought by police after he tricked an elderly man out of money.

    Police released this e-fit of a man they want to talk to.

    It happened last Monday when a man called at the house of the 88-year-old on St Nicholas Road in Thorne, and told the resident he needed work doing to his roof.

    After a few days of pretending to carry out the work, the man asked for money which the 88-year-old handed over. He called the police when it became apparent no work had been done.

    The Doncaster Central MP Rosie Winterton has been elected as one of three Deputy Speakers in the House of Commons.

    The job involves chairing debates in Parliament when the main Speaker John Bercow is on other business.

    The position became vacant because one of the former deputy speakers, Natascha Engle from North East Derbyshire, lost her seat at the general election.

    As part of their role, deputy speakers can't take part in votes and have to remain impartial.

    Army Bomb Disposal officers in Wakefield have been carrying out controlled explosions this afternoon after police were called to a house in Westgate End on Sunday night.

    A 41-year-old man from Leeds has been remanded in custody after being charged with two offences under the Explosives Act.

    Vladimir Madle of Westgate End will appear before Leeds magistrates again on 7 July.

    The third day of the day-night County Championship match between Yorkshire and Surrey at Headingley was abandoned without a ball bowled because of rain.

    Umpires Richard Kettleborough and Neil Mallender called the day off at 15:30 BST after constant rain on Wednesday.

    It means Surrey's hopes of forcing a victory are all but over, having taken control thanks to Kumar Sangakkara's brilliant unbeaten 180 on day two.

    Yorkshire are 27-1 in reply to the visitors' 516-7, still 489 runs behind.

    A Sheffield man has been fined after he made up claims about being assaulted and robbed.

    The 54-year-old called police on 13 June to tell them that he had been robbed on Dyche Road, Jordanthorpe and knocked out.

    Later that evening, he told police his house had also been broken into and bank cards stolen.

    After officers looked at CCTV footage and invested "considerable resources" into the alleged crimes it became clear they had not happened. He was fined £90.

  14. Duckenfield and Denton's solicitor declines to comment on CPS decisionpublished at 16:25 British Summer Time 28 June 2017

    Ian Lewis, the partner at JMW Solicitors who is representing two of the men facing charges over the Hillsborough disaster, match commander David Duckenfield and former Ch Supt Donald Denton, has issued the following statement.

    "In light of the decision by the Crown Prosecution Service to commence criminal proceedings against David Duckenfield and Donald Denton, it would be inappropriate for me as their solicitor or for my clients themselves to make any comment."

    Mr Duckenfield now lives in Ferndown, Dorset.

  15. Leeds scientists examine Everest glacierpublished at 16:09 British Summer Time 28 June 2017

    Climate change scientists from Aberystwyth University and the University of Leeds have become the first to successfully drill through the world's highest glacier.

    The group used a drill adapted from a car wash to cut into the Khumbu glacier in the foothills of Everest.

    Working at an altitude of roughly 5000m (16,404ft), they spent three days drilling 150m (492ft) into the glacier.

    The six-week expedition was a part of the Everdrill project which is collecting data to understand how the glacier moves and changes over time, and how it might respond to anticipated climate change.

    A teenager from Leeds has gone missing during a trip to Germany.

    Police say that Joshua Tummons, aged 19, was reported missing on 23 June and was last seen in Leeds on 15 June as he left for London.

    He was due home a week ago but his family have heard nothing since 20 June.

    Police in Leeds are working with the authorities in Germany and think he may have been in eother Dusseldorf or Berlin.

    Jewellery valued at thousand pounds has been stolen from a house in Huddersfield.

    Officers say the burglary happened sometime between 9 and 15 June at Centuria Walk in Salendine Nook.

    The burglars got in through a window and took a number of "distinctive pieces of jewellery" including a pearl and coral necklace, aquamarine earrings and items of filigree jewellery.
