    Firefighters from South Yorkshire are winding up their operation at a fire that's been burning in Worksop overnight.

    It started yesterday afternoon at a manufacturing plant in Sandy Lane, Worksop.

    Firefighters from South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue went to the blaze, joining teams from across Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire.

    At its height, 40 firefighters were tackling the fire.

    Five hundred tonnes of shredded rubber were causing thick black smoke at MBA Polymers.

    The man behind Sheffield Arena's has announced that he's leaving his position after 22 years working in the industry.

    General manager. Rob O'Shea, who worked at Manchester Apollo before he took the job at the site in South Yorkshire, says he's leaving the role to focus full time on his events promotion firm.

    During his time at the helm of the 13,500 seater venue acts including Take That, Little Mix and One Direction have performed and he will be succeeded by his current deputy Joe Waldron.

    A protest is being planned in Harrogate today against plans by Harrogate Borough Council to build 3,000 homes on the outskirts of a North Yorkshire village.

    Residents of Green Hammerton say the village couldn't cope with a development the size of a town on its doorstep.

    They have described it as "nonsensical and outrageous" and argue there's a more suitable site up the road at Flaxby, next to the A1M.

    A six week consultation is under way.

  5. Three people still in hospital after fatal Sheffield crashpublished at 09:04 British Summer Time 19 July 2017

    Two women and a man remain in hospital after a fatal crash on the Sheffield Parkway last week.

    An 88-year-old woman died after the car she was travelling in was hit by another car on 10 July.

    They were all travelling in the same car.

    A 40-year-old man, who was driving a grey Skoda Fabia, was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

    Police say it's thought his car crossed onto the wrong side of the carriageway.

    The two women, aged 71 and 74, and the man aged 73, are in a serious but stable condition.

    Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

    Dame Jessica Ennis-Hill will receive her record-equalling third world heptathlon gold medal in a ceremony at the World Championships in London - six years after the event in Daegu.

    The 2011 result was confirmed on Tuesday after the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) dismissed Tatyana Chernova's blood doping ban appeal.

    Chernova beat the Briton to gold in Daegu but her results are now annulled.

    The Russian also won bronze medals at the 2008 and 2012 Olympics.

    The 29-year-old has been told she must give up all three medals after twice testing positive when her anti-doping samples were later re-analysed. Her biological passport has also revealed years of blood doping.

  8. One hundred days until Leeds' Capital of Culture bidpublished at 08:18 British Summer Time 19 July 2017

    Today marks 100 days until Leeds submits its bid to be named European City of Culture. - and people in the city are being asked to pledge their support in an online campaign.

    Leeds is bidding for the crown in 2023 - which will see a UK city selected.

    Milton Keyes, Dundee and entries from Cornwall and Northern Ireland are among the others expected to compete for the title.

  10. West Yorkshire Tower Blocks: Five more fail safety testspublished at 07:39 British Summer Time 19 July 2017

    Five more high-rise buildings in West Yorkshire have failed fire safety tests on their exterior cladding.

    They include a hotel and two student accommodation blocks.

    The five Leeds buildings include Park Plaza Hotel on Boar Lane, and the student apartments, Concept Place (pictured) and Sky Plaza.

    Waterside Apartments and Waterloo Court Apartments have also failed the test.

    West Yorkshire Fire service say the buildings will not be evacuated while they're made safe.

    A programme of interim measures has been announced, including smoke detector checks and a 24-hour fire watch.

    Sheffield is hosting the 2017 HSBC UK National Circuit Championships this evening.

    The event will see some of the country's top professional cyclists going head-to-head for the prestigious red, white and blue national champions' jerseys.

    Riders will race for 50 minutes plus five laps on the 1.4-kilometre course that begins and ends on Pinstone Street.

  14. Watch: Emergency landing on Jet2 flight to Leedspublished at 06:58 British Summer Time 19 July 2017

    Passengers on board a Jet2 flight to Leeds have described the moment of "panic" when the cabin air pressure dropped to such an extent oxygen masks had to be released.

    The flight from Ibiza on Sunday required an emergency landing at Barcelona airport, with passengers then changing planes for the remainder of their journey.

    Tom Miller, who was on the flight said: "You're going down and there is so much panic, it levelled out but if felt so close to the water."

    Jet2 said the flight was diverted due to a "minor technical issue" and apologised to those who were on the plane.

    There are fears for the future of smaller community hospitals in North Yorkshire.

    There are a number of them across the county, including at Ripon, Selby and Malton.

    Officials will today hear concerns that some may lose services because of a lack of staff or money.

    This evening heavy thundery downpours will ease during the first half of the night, with clearer spells developing.

  17. Teaching union calls for UK-wide school lockdown planpublished at 06:36 British Summer Time 19 July 2017

    Schools need a coherent strategy for lockdown procedures in case of a dangerous event taking place on their premises, a teaching union said.

    The NASUWT said schools currently had ad hoc drills to deal with various threats and called on the Government to put together a comprehensive plan.

    More than 200 head teachers in West Yorkshire have attended council-run seminars providing advice on lockdowns.

    The Government said it "constantly reviewed" security guidance it issues.

    The seminars, run in collaboration with police, the fire service and the North East Counter Terrorism Unit, give advice on managing a potentially violent or dangerous event in or around a school.

    Five have been held since the beginning of 2016, with organisers aiming to have covered every school in West Yorkshire by Easter 2018.
